GOLDNIGGA

I recently got GOLDNIGGA on Cd and i know i'm gonna get slated 4 sayin this but its gr8. Its a really funky hiphop album with a prince influence. songs like goldnigga, johnny, black mf in the house, deuce n quarter, cal the law are great!! alot of ppl dislike it only cos it heavily features tony m. With the right promo i think this coulda been a big hit.
any1 got any info, cool facts about this album?

how could it of been a hit if it was released independtantly anyway. it was only availeble by phone order or at shows.

its ok, but way too many pointless segues. johnny is the ultimate jam!

I acquired this cd a few years back, and listen to it now and then. That album is just like apple butter - a little goes a long way. I listened to it twice through a couple weeks ago - the first time through was pretty good, but the second time through was already tired.

Yep. All the NPG albums are good fun IMO.

Take out the title track segues and you have a good bunch of tracks. The rapping is ridiculous, maybe that's why I like it though. And two great instrumentals.

People who only like Johnny "because it's the one Prince can be heard on" are missing out.

Is it Oilcan or Deuce & A 1/4 that's used in the Jeffersons skit in Girl 6, I forget, but I always think of that when I listen to the LP. lol

I picked up my copy at a show in the 90's in London and have always loved it.
Way way better than the follow up NPG album.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Yep Exodus....a truly awful album. The segues in that one are way worse than on Goldnigga.

I certainly don't know Tony M. personally, and have no issue with him. IMO, his vocals work perfectly with the music on "Gold Nigga" (he's only rapping the way Prince would have told him to). And I would agree: It's a very funky CD.

I like both NPG albums (I don't really consider NPS to be an NPG album).

But Goldnigga especially, because of how well those songs worked live... now, what year was that? Here in the UK we got a Prince tour where he frequently pulled those songs out of the bag... along with Endorphin Machine, a bunch of songs off Come... Wow those were great sets.

Tunes I recall P and the band playing:

Endorphin Machine
Race
2gether (Michael Bland played so great on that tune. Amazing groove.)
Black MF In The House
Deuce And A Quarter (I think)
Johnny

I especially remember one gig in Birmingham where they broke curfew to play pretty much all of those tunes. There was some official-looking geezer standing on the edge of the stage looking at his watch and trying to get them off. P says something like: "They say we have to quit. They say if we keep playing they're going to fine us. You know what? Let's pay the fine!"

Ah, happy memories.

I like Goldnigga...the smooth rap suited Tony much better than when he tried to sound gangsta.

Exodus is my favorite though. I love thee hell outta Hallucination Rain and the segues are hilarious.

"Play me summa dem '45s ya got over there...I ain't leavin!"

"Did anybody ask you what'chu know?"

"Sonny T, effin' wit me, wait till he gets a couple sips of that Hallucination Rain...ain't gonna be nuttin nice, nuttin nice..."

Mash Potato segue. lol

And my favorite...when P starts screaming on NPG Bum Rush The Ship. lol
Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
