An idea for the next album...

alrite guys, been away longtime. since the lawyer shite Prince has become far less of an idol to me, but whatever. been discussed already.

i was thinking about Prince's next album, and since he's in serious danger of just repeating himself constantly (much as i liked Planet Earth, let's face it. it had all been done before) i thought he should maybe do something more stripped-back and closer to jazz. i.e. a quieter, tighter, maybe predominantly acoustic record of new songs and covers of classics that are important to Prince. Prince on vocals/guitar/piano, a bassist, a drummer, a small brass section and some backing vocalists, with a raw, intimate recording sound. It'd be pretty fresh and probably gorgeous-sounding too. anyone else with me on this one?
Nose holes caked in black cocaine
No one holds a match to your skin
No dupe
No chiming
A way off miles off
No needle through a glove
Famine is a tall tower
A building left in the night
Jesse are you listening?
It casts its ruins in shadows

i just want something hard to get into and very weird sounding with lots
of vocal effects and strange arrangements with cool instruments and hard
to catch melodies. something layered and brooding and mysterious. above
all mysterious.

one word FUNKY!!

no ballads, no rock, no pop ...just FUNK!
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

My idea for the next album cover
The album cover have Prince have a short afro and grow his mustach out.

I would love something like that. But not a Rainbow Children part 2 (ignorant, dogmatic lyrics and 'jazz-rock' influenced music).
I am thinking more about something in the line of ATWIAD and Parade (colourfull aarrangements, use of exotic instruments) or his collaborations with Clare Fischer (mixing popular and classical elements like Björk did on her albums Homogenic and Vespertine).
More specific, i would love the brilliantly programmed sober beats of Sign of the Times and the "Jill Jones" album, combined with the 'colour locale' of ATWIAD and Parade, topped off with some string arrangements and a lot of acoustic guitar work. biggrin

i think he should dedicate his nxt album 2 london...throw a few songs in with plenty of rhyming slang. he'd b really good at it. he could move 2 the uk 4 inspiration...
i've got a spare room if he needs lodgings.

I like this concept; doesn't mean he can't or shouldn't do some of his earlier "wilder" stuff, but it seems reasonable considering his longevity, that a more "mature" sounding Prince would work nicely.

Growth is natural and in order to sustain, it appears that artists must continually re-define themselves (just like we do); those that have, i.e., Stevie Wonder, Patty LaBelle, Diana Ross, etc. have shown that it is possible. In contrast, the Stones play all their old tunes (they also dress the part)--don't get me wrong, I love the Stones--but they look ridiculous and critics have made folly of this.

I think it would be nice to see Prince in a more jazzy mellow setting. It would make it just that more exciting when he did break out with some of the older, wilder, sexy stuff. biggrin

and all of that in a bit more of a contemporary setting, much like the beats
and glitch used on bjork's vespertine and homogenic

I'd like to hear something more in the same idea as Lion Of Judah...maybe a bit more polished...kind of classic "rock" sounding with some jazzy overtones...like Steely Dan razz
