copycat thread: prince's "i feel for you" or chaka's

i would go with chaka's, really. about the only "cover" version of a prince song i prefer over prince's. p's version has potential and is cool in its own right but i mean chaka's, come on. "chaka, chaka, chaka khan", forget about it, classic. would do you guys think?

eek prince should leave the song well alone. he doesn't do it justice like chaka khan lol

Chaka khan, let me rock you
Let me rock you, chaka khan
Let me rock you, that's all i wanna do
Chaka khan, let me rock you
Let me rock you, chaka khan
Let me rock you, let me feel for you
Chaka khan let me tell you what i wanna do
Do you feel for me, the way i feel for you
Chaka khan let me tell you what i wanna do
I wanna love you, wanna hug you, wanna squeeze you too
Let me take you in my arms
Let me fill you with my charms, chaka
'cause you know that i'm the one to keep you warm
Chaka, i'll make you more than just a physical dream
I wanna rock you, chaka
Baby, cause you make me wanna scream
Let me rock you, rock you!

chaka khan - the song that started it all for me. the 1st prince song i bought, wondered who prince was cos he wrote it. 20+ years on, still obsessed by prince music and this is still one of my top 5 all time favourite songs.

Chaka Khan's. It's the first version I knew and it was the jam. Didn't even know Prince wrote it until I bought the record. Upon hearing Prince's original version for the first time I was disappointed. confused

Chaka's is pure funk. Prince's has a disco flair to it.

chaka chaka chaka!!!!
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Both are essential. P version is more disco and melodic, Chaka's version is pure mid-80's electro-funk cool

Prince version, because I fell in love with his version immediately. Chaka's had to grow on me, but I think her version is classic as well.

I love the original a little bit more, only cause it has a more "organic" feel to it, and the bass is nice. I guess Im more partial to the synths. Chaka's version gets props from me too

Prince's dopppleganger says that he likes Prince's version better, but it could defiantly use a bit of remastering.

I've always found the Chaka version so annoying that I've never actually even listened to it through. I'm listening to it on YouTube right now...

Prince's is definitely better. Chaka's version is all kinds of 80's cheese

shrug

I don't recall hearing the 12" version, but I bet I wouldn't like that one either lol

Tough, but I think I prefer Chaka's---but it's a close call. Like dannyd5050, Chaka's was the first version I was familiar with, so that might be why.

Chaka's I Feel For You and TLC's If I Was Your Girlfriend are the only two Prince covers where I like the cover as much as Prince's version. Most of the other Prince covers are shake. (Don't even get me started on Tom Jones' Kiss. ill)

No competition. Chaka's version. Prince's one sounds weedy.

I hate most 80s music made after, say, '82 or so. There are some notable exceptions.

i also like the Pointer Sisters and Rebbie Jackson's versions, because they are close to the original.Although I think it's kind of funny Rebbie did'nt say when I lay with u, instead saying hey when I'm with u.
