Is this something worth checking out?

I've been told it's Prince's first work prior to "For You".

i would say no. there's only one song where you can hear his voice and it's just in the background. the rest are either other people singing or instrumentals. if you like 70s style stuff, maybe you'll like it. i bought it and skipped through all the tracks once and haven't touched it since. shrug
For all time I am with you, you are with me.

id say yes, totally.
i love it, even without his bits. love love love for example really is a nice song, really reminds me of early prince, such as wouldnt you love to love me only without prince singing.

in my view, a great cd with some true gems.
Wouldn't you love to love me?

It's interesting to hear, but remember you're only hearing Prince as a musician.
He didn't have any songwriting input into any of the tracks apart from "Just
Another Sucker", which he contributed some lyrics to. 94 East was Pepe Willie's
baby, so Prince didn't really have any musical input into the tracks, he was
simply there to lay down whatever tracks Pepe needed.

but I must admit I haven't listened to it since maybe 20 years
Has anyone tried unplugging the United States and plugging it back in?
