Royal hub is no more...

The Royal Hub is been taken down by Web sherrif.hijacked
Fellow hubbers, cry here...
cry grouphug cry

This is the email from Websherrif:

Hi ewaldhoogendijck

On behalf of AEG Worldwide and NPG / PRINCE, we would kindly ask you not to file-share illegal / unauthorized bootleg and pirate recordings of PRINCE (whether through TRH or elsewhere). For your info, the Hub is now being closed down and we would again kindly ask you not to try and join any attempted replacement ring, network, forum or site.
As you may be aware, web-traffic relating to PRINCE's intellectual property rights is now being monitored and, where appropriate, removed … .. and not just by Web Sheriff, but also by music industry associations / attorneys so, if you insist upon collecting bootleg / pirate recordings - which, obviously, PRINCE would rather that you didn't - then please retain them for personal use off-line / do not ‘broadcast’ them via web-rings, forums, p2p applications or blogs etc.

On behalf of AEG Worldwide and NPG / PRINCE, we do appreciate that - of course - you are valued fans of / are promoting PRINCE but, by the same token, you must also appreciate that, by distributing bootleg or pirate recordings (or linking to similar material), you are potentially causing considerable inconvenience and we are sure that you would not want to be personally responsible (or liable) for any of the resulting damage and disruption.

Whilst writing, we’d add that PRINCE / NPG and AEG Worldwide are not at all against free music but, at the end of the day, it should be (and is) the artist’s decision as to whether or not he effectively allows the unauthorized distribution of (unauthorized) material on-line - as it’s HIS MUSIC / PERFORMANCE !! Thank you, again, for respecting their wishes.

As you will appreciate, this e-mail - containing, as it does, a position that is potentially prejudicial to our clients’ enforcement of their rights - is written on a without prejudice basis and, as such, all of our clients’ accumulated, worldwide rights remain strictly reserved : please excuse this required formality.

With Thanks & Regards,

WEB SHERIFF

Who gets their stuff from The Royal Hub, anyway? There are many other places to get all the Prince bootlegs you will EVER need.

Don't you just LOVE Web Sheriff? I hope the music industry keeps declining -- nobody buys music anymore anyway. Good riddance to the industry.

Just get your stuff in the binaries. Who uses the Royal Hub anyway? I tried once, but there were like 100 steps to use it. I said screw that.

The Prince binaries groups aren't exactly the most active on usenet.

Direct Connect is a very easy software to use.

It'll be back in one form or another.

Running a direct connect hub is a piece of piss - I guess it's keeping it under the Paisley Police radar that's the difficult part cop

This email by the Sheriff does not contain the copyright notice forbidding the receiver to distribute it ... ie. the Sheriff wants everyone to read it.
No doubt that makes a difference.
Also; in the past week Prince and his people have released 2 statements to the press. Both attempt to shift attention from a free-speech/fair-use debate to filesharing, bootlegging and piracy. The first statement was released "by accident" and says that FPU and related sites are bootlegging pirates who run their things cos they want to get rich.
The second statement is about how Prince is going to start a lawsuit against Piratebay, a filesharing site. This second statement offers no news, cos Prince had already announced his intent to sue Ebay, Youtube and Piratebay.
So take these things together, add the timing of the email you read on this thread (2 days after PFU appeared), the lack of the copyright notice on that email and the picture becomes clear.
The strategy is to recover from the PR disaster by falsly giving the impression that what Prince is trying to do with the fan sites is piracy related, as well as giving a few 100 filesharers reasons to go post on the org about how their favorite filesharing place was taken down, and thereby potentially polluting the "message" PFU is trying to communicate.

I hope that explains it.

Yeah, very strange. They attack a site like the org, that tries to play by the rules, but for the hub, the most active bootleg filesharing site, its a nicey nicey letter.....

Something is amiss.....
