I remember seeing him on Solid Gold and just being Blown Away. I actually kissed the T.V. screen . That show was repeated and I would make sure my family and friends gathered around the T.V. to watch him perform. From that day on I was mesmerized and I bought every Prince record I could in the Village. I remember going crazy trying to find How Come U Don't Call Me? and Horny Toad. I went to every store with my folks and scooped up everything. I was seriously taken with Prince and his music. I was In Love. From that day on Prince was my Fantasy Man...

Man!, the first time I saw Prince I had to be about 12 or so a friend of mines mother had his album cover sitting on the floor behind some other albums she had and we were playing as children do and one of us knocked over some of the records and when I saw his picture I asked who he was, she said, oh! that's Prince but my mom does'nt really play his music when I'm around that's because she was also young at the time. I remember picking up the album cover and looking at it for the longest time, I was captured by his look it was his eye's that got me, cause everyone always talked about mine calling me cat and all so it was cool to see a guy with eye's like mine, anyway I thought he was very handsome in a unique looking way for a guy, I had to sneak a listen to see just what this "Prince" was singing about when I put the needle on the record boy was I supprised by not only what I was hearing but also because it was the first time I ever heard a guy with my color skin play the way he does and than it was over I was abducted from that day on by his sound.
I'm just a junky for the sound.

First time I saw P was Top Of The Pops, 1987(I was 9),and they were showing the U Got The Look video.
At the time it was CAT I was eyeing up.
Then when I was 13 I saw the Partyman video, and never looked back since.
My mum still thinks he's gay tho!

I was about 15 or 16 and I had been introduced to his music through an ex but had never seen his face. One morning I had the TV tuned to a morning video show but I wasn't watching it. Then all of the sudden I heard this voice that I had just gained a deep love for coming out of the TV. I rushed down to the TV and caught my first glimpse of this beautiful man. I sat down on the floor right were I was standing and was in complete rapture of this man. I watched in wonder as this man crawled across a floor, half naked, and straight into my fantasies. So the video for When Doves Cry has always had a very strong effect on my mind and heart.

Lots of love to you all.
LOTS OF LUV 2 U ALL !!!

My Goodness, the very very first time I PAID ATTENTION 2 Prince (cuz, I always knew who he was thru my mother) was when I was watching Under The Cherry Moon with my little cuzzin.
I was like, 9 years old & fell in love
lol My cuzzin was 6 years old & we giggled up a storm watching that daggone movie!!
Mind you, this wasnt when the movie came out, we were watching it on VH1 cuz they were showing it.
sigh I was thinking "Im gonna talk 2 him 1 day..."
Then my cuzzin busted that thought with "YUK! He's kissing Mary!!!" big grin
peace & wildsign

The Dirty Mind or Uptown video on some late video show on non-cable TV sometime in 1981.

I thought "Hey, there's a band called Queen, now a band called Prince?!?!"

Then I thought he was just too freaky. Next day, I put on my Journey Escape album...until I saw Purple Rain...and that was it.

1st time? Sometime back in the early 80s when WB was starting to expose him on TV.

I think "a more interesting" question would be.. when was the LAST TIME you frequently saw Prince on T.V.

I remember he was popping here and there all over the T.V back in 1997-98.

It was an awards show. Not sure which 1 but it was around '84 I guess. The camera showed him sitting in the audience. He had this serious stone cold straight face on, and I wondered who was this mysterious looking person. Later on that same show I remember seeing his high heeled boots. It kinda shocked me a bit 2 see a man in high heels but the look fit him. Over all I was like wow.

The first time I saw Prince on TV was when '1999' was released (it was also the first time I heard him). I was hooked from there on in, went out & bought the album and never looked back.

I don't know if it was the first but what really made me ONLY a prince fan..

was The American Music Awards I believe in the 1984/85? when Prince won all the awards more or less and was very shy in his speaches..

I thought he was so cool and odd/cool when he went up there with his Huge Bodyguard to get his awards..

and when he just said "Thanks" and then left

Actually I didn't think that. I was too young to even contemplate such a thing at that time (it was either '79 or '80), but I knew what had just transpired. All I can remember thinking was that he was odd. As I got older I saw it for shyness. People who only think of shyness in black and white terms would scoff, but people who only think in black and white terms are always off the mark anyway.

The first time that I can remember was possibly the 1999 video...I was in a kitchen helping clean and it came on and I "shit my pant". I damn near dropped the dishes ..took my waitress apron off and beamed like a fuckin schoolgirl...this was one of the rare videos that wasnt rock. That sealed it as someone else said. The image, the band, the smoke, the opening. It was like seeing Billy Jean for the first time. Shit got me hooked.

I didn't really think he offended him, see my second post.
Clark just asked him a few questions. I think Prince spoke no more than 4 words in total as answers. And once he raised a few fingers in an answer to a question I can't remember right now.

American Bandstand, either '79 or '80.

I used to stay up that late watching it too, but I was switching from TBS to USA watching those shows, and on Friday nights between those channels AND NBC for Friday Night Videos. They played EVERYTHING! And I didn't go to bed til they were all over. You didn't see "Ice Cream Castles" on MTV, you had to go to the other channels for that. And that weekday afternoon video show on USA with Lisa Robinson kicked ass too. She always gave Prince props. Everyday after school headbang

He refused to talk to Dick Clark. In fact at some point in the interview, Dick Clark asked him a question and he held up four fingers. Dick Clark also asked him how many instrument he plaed and he muttered, "everything".

The "little red corvette" video. I just thought, "wow, he's cute." I payed more attention to dr. fink though, I was like, "what's with the doctor suit?" It wasn't until I saw the purple rain stuff that I got into him.
