1999, PR, ATWIAD, Parade, Sign, Lovesexy what a staggering unbelievable run of pop mastery, funk laden rocked out new wave genius produce by this man named Prince
It is just shocking his ability during this period to flow from new wave punk, rock funk, rb soul, alternative experimental, artsy fartzy master peices. I am listening to Parade right now and that thing is possibly Prince's best album ever! Girls & Boys is blasting right now. I have never in my life heard a song like that before or since. How many songs written by this man can we say this very thing. Doves Cry Sign of the Times America Something In the Water Compter Blue I Would Die 4 You Adore International Lover Pop Life I Know Glam Slam All the Critic Love U Condition of the Heart Paisley Park If I Was UR Girlfriend It is just a staggering breath of material that covers so many different generas and some of the songs he creates his own genera. Come on ya'll the ballad of Dorthy Parker...Kiss. I have you ever heard any shit like that before or since! Mountains is blasting while I type this ya'll. Mountains!!! What a great song! I love each of these albums equally they are brilliant in every way in their own right. 1999 Purple Rain Around the World In Day Parade Sign of the Times Lovesexy Wow...dude was on a role! By far in my opinion his best song lyrically. It was also written around the tim of Lovesexy and includes the seque that appears on Lovesexy between I Know and Alphabet Street. Can you imagine how mind blowing Lovesexy would have been with Joy In Rep on it. Oh wait it already is mind blowing! Dance... Let me see you dance

Joy In Repetition was written is June of 1986 as a solo project with no particular place at first as Dream Factory was being completed. It would later be segued from The Ball from the original 1987 Crystal Ball and then later dropped off as the album was cut down to create SOTT. Prince just recycled the segue for the Lovesexy album. However if you have the outtake with the long solo drum beating in the beginning rather than the segue, then you have a true gem. __________________________________________________

Question was Play in the Sunshine inteded for the Ball/Crystall project as well. There are city and street sounds right before the song starts that sound very similar to those on "Crystal Ball" the song Dance... Let me see you dance

There are city and street sounds right before the song starts that sound very similar to those on "Crystal Ball" the song[/quote] Play In The Sunshine was intended for the original Crystal Ball(1987) as it continuously runs from Rebirth of the Flesh. Its primarily the same song as SOTT, however it has machine gun shots at the very beginning of the song which was edited out of the SOTT version of the song. __________________________________________________

The 3 great era´s of prince music:
This era (The First) which actually began with Dirty Mind, is without doubt the golden era, no other artist/band can lay claim to this productivity and quality. Take into account the work with the Time, the girls groups, Shiela E, Mazarati and Jill Jones, not to mention the volumes of out takes from this era. The only other artist I can think of, who came anywhere near this with success was David Bowie. The second era was from D&P to the Crystal ball The 3rd era being TRC to present, although it has to be said PE should be excluded, as it is probably the weakest album P has ever done, it is the album that makes you thank modern technology, that allows you to skip, skip, skip If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

I typically don't include the Dirty Mind and Controversy albums in the "Golden Era" like a lot of people do because they were so hit or miss IMO. The consistency IMO began with 1999. It was bubbling under with Dirty and certainly Controversy....he kicked the door open with 1999 and burned the house down with Purple Rain. It is staggering isn't it?
