It is about P.Control. I have never been seriously shocked of any songs, expect P.Control back then. I found it very offensive. I remember at that point my opinion of P changed. Has anybody felt the same, or have i overracted? I still dont know what to think of P. Control. confused

I was completely thrown by this song, but for different reasons.

It was the 3rd album I listened to.
Before that, I had only heard a couple of random singles, Musicology and Purple Rain.

His voice was completely different than what I'm used 2. But then he started running at the mouth... I never heard him curse b4. I knew he did, but I wasn't expecting it. Caught me off guard. I couldn't deny, though, that there was a groovy beat to it. Eventually, I got to like it.

At the time, though, it was just the start on TGE's many surprises (and not all were good ones... that's why it took me so long to warm up 2 the album).
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I dont understand why anybody would want to write a song such as p control, i think this is tacky song getting played in nude bars. On the other hand when i first heard organgrinder, i flipped out razz

Prince (or rather prince ) has a mind that works in strange ways. Acceptence usually comes around soon enough in my case.
At a certain point, once any shock that accumulated wears off, I try not to really understand why he'd write such unusual songs.

But that is what makes Prince... Prince. cool

You're right; that would never happen to songs like Soft And Wet, Sexy Dancer, Do Me Baby, Let's Pretend We're Married, Darling Nikki, Tamborine, Kiss, Hot Thing, Le Grind, Tick Tick Bang, Gett Off or Sexy MF...

hmm

well, i dunno, i heard it for the first time in Ireland live, and hearing 12,000 people sing pussy control was halirious, not to unlike a few yrs before when he got 28,000 singing sexy MF.

The truth is prince has far more shocking songs than these ones, and the lyrics to P control have a very good story wink

I think from the reaction it looks as if women are more shocked by that song than men, so i understand why i over-reacted.

I could no way listen loud to that song, i am not sure what my neighbours would have thought. I still think that song is pretty shit, and whats the content anyhoo?

How on Earth can women be shocked/offended by the song? What the hell is so offensive about it? It has an awesome pro-feminist message.

What the heck is pro-feminist in that song? I think with that song he got to the max of making women just symbolic, he always does but p-ctrl is not funny and entertaining.

That's the joke about the song, you have to listen to what the lyrics say.

It's about a girl going to school, getting, a career and ruling over her oppressors and persecutors when she grows up... even ruling over Prince....

Could it be about Oprah?

Va-jay-jay pain'n.

It is still not pro-feminist 2 me. It is like P-crtl ruling over anything, fuck that, some cheap nasty thing.

It is about being a strong woman and not giving up what you got to just anyone. Having pussy control. The girl in the song goes from being a victim to being in control of her life. She doesn't just give her body to anyone. She has it under control. The man that finally gets it will have to have a job and money and be able to treat her right.

I think you just don't want to hear the good in the song. That is a shame. Perhaps it's a strange way to phrase what he is saying but it in no way is derogatory towards women.
Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

this song has always made me smile! the first time i heard it, i couldn't believe prince was being such a caveman lol
none of my girlfriends refer 2 their 'lady garden' as a pussy....it's a pimp expression tht one associates with blue movies..
as 4 the guys, well thts a different matter! my husband will sing this song at the top of his lungs so the neighbours can hear - much 2 my embarrassment. he loves watching me squirm (the dirty bastard)
