We are supposed to forgive the song, because Prince was in an alternate dream state when it was written. The Lion most definitely strayed until his Lion of Judah capture, here in 2007. cool Will we ever know what really roars behind closed doors?

nod interesting point.

prince answered this question himself on the Larry King interview.

He said that he and his band were watching this special about the supposedly end of the world come 1999 and everyone around him was really panicky about it. This surprised him because he thought that everyone around him weren't worriers and were cool/calm/collected people.
So he wrote this song to inspire them and anyone else who feared the end of the world with 1999 came. He didn't think there'd the end of the world at the end of that year... and what do u know? He was right cool

Not that I really bought into the y2k thing myself shrug

razz I appreciate you!

The song is about Jesus' return to Earth after 2000 years.

yes finally someone gets it....the incredible ignorance of people that call themselves Prince fans. So ignorant in fact that the don't even realize the 1999 is very much about the second coming of Christ 2000 years after his death

One day I'm going to stop being suprised at how many people that hate Prince's religeous side don't even recognize his references in his music

O´great ONE, before you start your next sermon, maybe you can spell his name right
If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

did missing the n in Prince's name make my point any less relevant? Do you have anything to add? Oh and by the way your wish is my command.

Its not about being an old great one...its about just being informed when you comment on something. The song has nothing remotely to do with Nostradamus and everything with partying before the coming of the Lion of Juda eek and the lights go out! When I woke up this morning this morning was judgement day....Now lets open our Bibles shall we?

you proabably didn't make that connection either did you sherlock

Thank you, I appreciate your comments on this!

I did catch that part about judgment day but I wasn't too sure what Prince's beliefs were at that time nor what is taught in other churches about supposedly when it is. I know the bible doesn't set a day when Judgment Day will come, and I believe I heard that Nostradamus supposedly predicted that the end of the world was coming in the year 2000, and therefore is why Prince may have mentioned the year 1999, the year before the Judgment Day that they would be partying before they die!?!

What does Lion of Judah have to do with this song, it was mentioned a few times in this thread? Lion of Judah came out just recently, or did I miss something along the way with this one?

I'm getting confused confuse !

Well, in the song, it never mentions lion of judah, but the lion in his pocket, which I'm thinking is quite a different thing. No? confuse

lol honestly.. i have to go back and read it cause i didnt lol.. when judgement day happens, you'll have to defend yourself from the chaos and crime.. Prince is saying 'if u didnt come to party, dont bother knocking on my door...I've got a lion in my pocket and it's ready to roar' meaning he's ready and waiting for any other type of drama to go down

that is a very interesting take on that lion of the song, err line!!!

I had a totally different take on that, which was basically, if you not interested in getting down and having a boogie, dont bother turning up, as i basically have a massive hard on and it is ready to explode ie "and baby he´s ready to roar" hmmm

what about Let´s go crazy or Sexuality? He mentions something about someone coming in those songs as well, as for the bible, I cant open mine as all the pages are stuck together with the Lion of Juda´s glue wink

hmmm Again, this makes sense too! This is what I actually thought in the first place, because it fits in with the partying.

tbh I think most people think the same as you on that line Whitnail, the other stuff on here reminds me of when you are studying and you over analyse philosophers or great writers. Sometimes some things you don't have to analyse but simply enjoy. I know Prince does do cryptic stuff, but really guys I think this line is simply about his genitals and nowt else!
