I bought this cd when it was released, and have since ruined it. I went replace it (the only Prince cd missing from my collection) to find out its his only cd out of print. I had to import it from amazon.com Japan and paid with shipping around $70. Why is this particular cd no longer in circulation?

if you snoop around enough you can find a used copy for much cheaper than that. try gemm.com or froogle.com. yes, it's out of print, but it's not such a rare item yet that it demands high prices...it's just that certain collectors are catching wind that it's out of print, and they're jacking up the price. keep looking and good luck!

I got mine at a flea market that sells use cds. Try 2nd hand stores.

Wow you could have just gotten a nice used copy off of amazon. Stories are all over the place as to why it's out of print. Considering it came out after much negotiation between him and WB, I tend to think the terms weren't that great for the label to be interested in keeping it out there.

This phenomenon is on the rise as of late. All manner of Funky Music that was released as recently as The 70's and 80's, is coming up Missing In Action, as radio stations increasingly bombard you relentlessly with The Hit of The Moment. These days, at best, you're lucky to find a hit or two by your favorite artist on some CD compilation disc of "Greatest Hits", which unfortunately usually miss their mark, excluding most of the music that really made the artist "famous" with their fans. Collectors of The Good Shit beware! Sir Nose Lives and is actively conspiring to rob you of Your Funk!

After my car got stolen along with several ?rince out of print CDs I learned to burn copies of CD, safe keep the originals and play the CDRs... then you won't have to buy a 2nd CD again. Glad I did because another of ?rince CDs out of print Emancipation got wrecked last week. Luckily it was the CDR not the original.

I didn't realize it was out of print! I'd better handle mine more carefully.

I got lucky with my copy of TGE. It has gold writing on the cover saying "FOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY. SALE OR OTHER TRANSFER IS PROHIBITED. MUST BE RETURNED ON DEMAND OF RECORDING COMPANY". Got it relatively cheap.

Now, given that the album and main song is largely a dig at Warner Bros., I feel I'm contributing to the fight against record companies by owning it.....

My dad has a copy from when it was released as well. It's probably our favourite album, though I'm really starting to get into early Prince stuff just now.

I've seen it in a used cd store for 10 dollars recently. I use to have 2 copies on cd. I got one promo before it was released when I was working in a music store and I bought a copy when it came out.My apartment was burgalarized and they took the copy I bought. I still have the promo as well as a cassette I got at a Prince party.

i got mine from ebay for £9

I got a used one from ebay few months back in the UK. Strange enough I spotted a completely new one in a small record shop in Hong Kong unexpectedly for just under US$ 12.about 2 days ago while I am on holiday over there. So, I couldn't help but to get a second copy. This copy was made in germany though.

That one and Rainbow Children...very hard to find. Maybe this is Prince's plan...to never re-release his music to make it super rare and sought out.

I would suspect that Chaos and Disorder is going to fall into this catagory as well. New Power Soul could easily get there in 5-10 years.

ALL of the NPG albums are very hard to get. ALL of the protege stuff is very hard to get.

While this is all good and everything, I do hope these recordings are preserved in some way as it'd really suck is Vanity 6 never saw the light of day again.

Isn't it out of print because only a certain amount of copies were made. I cna see WB not re-issuing anything under thier catalogue, but why Prince hasn't had another pressing of some of these hard to find albums, is beyond me.

The worst case scenerio you can get from ITunes for about 11 dollars. You wont have the pretty package but you'll have the music.

i can't count how many times i've bought this cd for $0.99 - $7.99 and sold it on ebay for $15 - $25...seriously, probably like 15 times....some people .

A CD shop in my town was closing down last summer and I got a brand new sealed copy for one euro

It's out of print because they stopped making 'em.
