2005 was the year of all the house parties that kicked off the 3121 concept, so it wasn't as if he didn't play, at all.
And I'm pretty sure there was a Tamar gig or two at the end of the year. (I saw them in Minneapolis in February of 2006.) We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

2005 was not a good year for me...
as a matter of fact, it was the worst year ever! First, I'm close to Mother Teresa, may her soul rest in peace but I got arrested(b/c my ex framed me)-I spent 5 hours in jail and taken out by his mother who knew it was wrong for him to have done that. Second, I get home to my mother's 2 bedroom apt b/c her house is still not fixed and still not today and there's 4 people living with her already. I was there with my two boys when one of the people, my brother got in a car accident inwhich he was killed. Never got to see his face again. And all that we are dealing with still today. Third, after trying to get a divorce all that year, I finally got it done this year as of 4 months ago. Fourth, Hurricane Katrina and Rita happend and it worsened chances of my family moving back home, displaced a lot of them and still has today. But God doesn't give you anything you can't handle right? Something good: My deceased brother's girlfriend had a baby boy 7 months after he died. I met the love of my life, and I got away from all the abuse. Wasn't a great year after all but there's always a silver lining huh? I need a hug Um... let me warm up my vocals

Prince was hoping that over the course of 2005 people would forget that whole "retiring the hits" thing so that he could drag them out again in 2006 & 2007.

2005 was definately one of the quietest Prince years EVER!! But you have to remember he was coming off one of the busiest Prince years ever in 2004.
He wasn't completely off the radar: - A few TV appearances early in the year (People's Choice, Acadamy Awards) - The fabulous NAACP Vanguard Award Jam - A couple of NPGMC releases: "Glass Cutter", "Strange Relationship (live '87)" etc. - The S.S.T single - "Te Amo Corazon" was released by the end of the year in preparation for 3121. - Lots of Celeb parties (not that that helped our cause ) I've always thought that 3121 was originally meant to be released earlier, say, late 2005. But due to either Hurricane Katrina and/or the divorce with Mani, and/or getting involved with Támar (musically speaking LOL), he delayed it for a few months. Since then, it's been buisness as usual - touring, albums, more touring, more albums etc. [Edited 11/21/07 19:23pm] Toejam @ Peach & Black Podcast: http://peachandblack.podbean.com

A few guesses:
He was tired after the Musicology tour. He was working on what would be 3121. He was working on Tamar's CD. His marriage was falling apart. His old webpage closed and he had to work on the new one. He was developing the perfume. Plus that was the year of Katrina. There was alot going on. Plus with 3121 and PE coming out a year apart that took alot of planning.

he had an album ready to go, but decided against it, and moved on to 3121. "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran

Cora was definitely part of the 3121 "house" band in 2005. Not sure if Josh was.

Not sure what Katrina has to do with Prince at all... but having two albums in two years is par for the course for Prince, he can handle it. I think he just "took off" because he can.
