Why does Prince make videos then not let us watch them?

videos are literally promos. When they first came out they weren't even called music videos; they were promos

Companies spend millions promoting goods and if someone posts your video you are getting free promotion. i mean music videos; not commercial live concerts or anything else.

Prince complained WB didn't promote his albums properly; then when he gets great free promotion he stops it? Hasn't he also said something about MTV not playing his videos?

There is no other artist as weird, controlling, selfish and down right arrogant as Prince

Now, I dont buy that. Prince has big balls. He seems like the kind of strong brother who does what he wants and does't give a f.ck about what people say. I mean, look at how he was when he first started. Do you think a man running around in black panties and heels cares about critisism? Look at the choices he has made in his music and what kind he wnts to make. Do you think he cares what people say?

my theory is that he is not interested in archiving his work any more than is absolutely necessary. i think if he could take all his old albums out of print, he would. and i don't mean that just in terms of his battle with WB, i mean that he'd rather have people spending money on what he's doing now than what he did 20 years ago. if this is indeed how he thinks, it's a shame. i just have a really hard time imagining prince ever taking part in the re-issue, remaster or archival release of any of his old material. it seems like it would go against his nature. i REALLY hope i'm wrong.

i think he's over sensitive when it comes 2 his work. only gotta look at the diss songs... if he really didnt give a shit imo he wouldnt bother 2 retaliate with so much passion
he's clearly a confident guy & believes in himself & abilities, oh, he knows he's good! razz
but y would he try 2 deny people chance 2 appreciate his stuff?
vid footage i've seen where interviewers have just touched on critisism leave him wild eyed & fiercely defensive!

Yeah, that's why he just did a hits tour in London. He's always wanted people to listen to his new stuff - which artist wouldn't?

He's a control freak is all. I really don't see what's so hard to understand.

he knows that he wouldn't get the kind of major audience draws that he's been getting since 2004 if he only did current material.

he also knows how many people are clamoring for a proper release of tons of his live and unreleased studio material, but it's not gonna hurt him as much to forego those dollars.

Because Prince has money to do what he wants to do. I'd hate to see the balance sheet of Paisley Park Enterprises. Or the cash flows. When the money is gone, you can expect a US Tour. smile

co-sign

If he was an up and coming artist he might be glad about free promotion.

he has no appreciation for the fans whatsoever

For the most part I don't think he makes videos for fans to watch. I think he makes them because he's board...basically something to do...a way to satisfy a personal creative urge. Normal people paint a picture, work with clay, work on a scrapbook, or play with some photography...now Prince...he shoots videos and such and once the urge is satisfied he either shares it or puts it away. wink lol
He gets it! That's why the ladies love him...batting eyes

and then has the nerve to get mad at the record label when he's pissed away the $100 million they paid him on videos that would never see the light of day.
