Article dated November 14th, 2007 Matthew Williamson, fashion designer spoke about Prince's appearance a few months back at his fashion show. Here is excerpt that mentions Prince: Prince asked if he could perform at my tenth anniversary show in London. We were like “yeah, right, whatever” and didn’t really respond, but then the day before, things got a bit more serious. He wanted some footage for his next music video and his muse said: “If you do a show, it has to be Matthew’s.” The night before we were building stages and spending money like there was no tomorrow in case Prince turned up. There was no rehearsal and at the last minute, we were told that he might not come. Then about 15 minutes before the show, he arrived. It was the first time I had met him and it was just like “Oh, hello”. [Edited 11/14/07 6:59am] Because people in the fashion industry are surrounded by musicians and celebrities day in and day out. It takes alot for them to be impressed or overwhelmed by any famous figure not particularly related to the world of fashion, or someone who is not a personal icon of theirs. In the end it makes sense for Williamson to plan for this performance because it's a nice pop culture boost for the label, whether he himself was a fan of Prince or not... ...hell, even if Prince didn't show up, The Williamson team would still have to include the performance expenses in the costs of the entire production, which be tax deductible anyway, so it does come down to ' yeah, right, whatever'...  | |

Why does this man think he's God? For crying out loud show some freakin' respect for people. If someone asked him to perform and they didn't confirm, he'd be rip shit and throw a hissy fit. Cuz he's Prince. He should change his name to Princess.

Me thinks Mr Williamson is less than generous with the truth. In this interview, he says the fashion show was the first time he met him. But in another interview (can't remember if it was the times or guardian - someone come to my rescue) he said he met Prince the night before at the V&A & that he asked Prince if he would be performing at his show tomorrow, to which Prince responded "maybe" before disappearing!! I think Matthew Williamson is simply milking the Prince angle for all its worth. Wonder if he'll have a different version the next time he's interviewed? "Had to get off the boat so I could walk on water..." |
