Madness....

Whew....this whole PFU thing is simply madness. For me it's always been about the music and not the personality. This whole PFU effort, though at first glance seems a good idea, is in reality only harming the image of the very artist it claims to admire. As a lifelong Prince fan i've spent countless hours and dollars amassing the man's music but it was all free will and he owes me nada. It's really silly to even think he does. The music down through the years has made me smile, laugh, dance, contemplate, relax, emote and overall make this incarnation a lil more enjoyable...thats payment enough for me. All this whining and bitching is tired and lame imo. So with that i part...it's been fun. I hope you guys find what you are searching for. Me? Im gonna sit back and continue to enjoy the ride and the music for as long as he feels the need to share. Lata.

Like yourself, I'm sure there are many people (some of whom support the PFU stance and others who disagree), who do not think Preince owes them anything as a result of following his musical career etc..

What I believe is right is for the owners of sites such as prince.org to defend legal challenges from Prince (his legal representatives) where they believe that they owe Prince nothing.

For those that disagree with that stance, for example, it makes sense for them to decide to quit supporting the website.

Keep enjoying the music.

There really is a simple solution to all this, give back his name, and re-name the site.

I support PRINCE, and I show my support (and respect) for PRINCE on a website called PRINCE.org,

clapping Thank you. As a woman of color I felt this thing was beginning to sound like a modern day lynching on the internet, I may not have liked some of the things Prince has done, but I will defend to the end his right to do it. I've been a fan for close to 30 years and I still will not leave him. smile

And that is where you are confused, it has NADA to do with free speech.

what about good ol'fashioned capitalism, the right to defend what you worked for?

Copying and pasting someone else's work against the authors permission has NADA to do with free speech, it has nada to do with your rights, and the youtube baby has nothing to with this either most of you are old enough or are smart enough to know that.

Writers are on strike some of you may know, they want among other things, a percentage of money made with streaming of online content, a way of transmitting their work that was not foreseen a years back, which will become a lot more common, maybe even commonplace,.....and others unions are behind them and Hollywood has basically shut down.

Madonna and Radiohead decided that they would go another route in the distribution of their work, hopping they would actually make money on touring instead....they seem to have thown up their hands and hopes of making money on albums sales now because its so easy to copy and share their material for free.

That IS the point.

Prince is taking you selfish pricks on.... and I for one commend him and applaud him for once in the longest time.

Prince IS a prick, ...I hope this situation wasn't what made you hip to that, only because it affected your nerdy pic posting infatuation,..... that would just be selfish and silly.

anyway,,,,whatever enjoy yourselves

You will see that my reply was to a particular poster. As far as I was concerned, I was discussing a person's right to choose to post on a website (within the the law and the site terms of service), whether they are for or against issues, which was part of the original subject at the start of the thread.

what about good ol'fashioned capitalism, the right to defend what you worked for?

Copying and pasting someone else's work against the authors permission has NADA to do with free speech, it has nada to do with your rights, and the youtube baby has nothing to with this either most of you are old enough or are smart enough to know that.

I wasn't in any way confusing copyright issues with 'freedom of speech'.

I was responding to a particular poster about their right to choose to express their views if they choose on this site, even if they disagree with the site owner taking a stand against Prince's legal challenges of alleged copyright breach.

Prince is taking you selfish pricks on and i for one comend him and apploud him once in the longest time.

I don't collect or download pictures of Prince (regardless of the author), and I have no interest in "pic posting" so I presume you weren't referring to me.

I agree with the writers. If these networks/media outlets are allowing programs the writers worked on to be streamlined, then they should be paid. They apparently are not getting a portion of the advertising dollars that these networks/media outlets are getting for having these programs streamed, on various sites. It's only fair the writers receive some percentage of that, it's their written material.

Your original thread reminds me of the old adage, which came first, the chicken or the egg???

PFU is destroying Princes image? Or is Prince destroying his image? Everybody's looking for the latter.

Separate the music, it's not about that.

But, through the music, we all became huge fans, which naturally led us here and to other fansites, where we expect conversation, pics, lyrics, news etc.
I defend Princes right to have these sites pull whatever he has copyrighted, but he's asking for much more than that. He doesn't own copyrights on 95% of the pics on these sites, nor any of the officially released video's (WB) , nor any of the bootlegged video's...etc etc.

What he's trying to do is impose on what we can show and say on these sites.
You do remember how censored the NPG Music Club site was don't you? That's what he wants to get back to. A place where only good things are said about him and where he controls all pics and videos released.

An impossible dream in this digital age.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

On a day of remembering the courageous people who fight for the rights of people who don't always agree but do have every right to do so because of the courage of those people. As a man of no color, who is educated and sophisticated, I can see that it's not a modern day lynching, but a response to a rich rock star who likes to threaten "unofficial websites" with high priced, evil lawyers because they are not "official websites." Mr. Prince also does not understand copyright law, as he's going after "all pictures", even ones he does NOT own the copyright to. Moreover, he doesn't like people having negative opinions about him and his music, and he wants to shut that voice up.

Any normal, intelligent person would side with his fellow human being, a human being on their level -- the creators, moderators, and users of this forum. To side with someone in a completely different class than you (Prince), who would sue you for no reason, is absurd.

I agree. This situation as a whole has gone too far! I mean Prince, imo, doesn't owe me anything. Why should he? however, I'm getting a little sick of this bullshit of lawsuits and removing vids from YT and his bitch attitude nowadays.
