PARADE among 1,000 albums to hear before you die Parade is among the 1,000 albums Gurdian recomend to hear "before you die".
The complete list is at http://music.guardian.co....98,00.html Regarding Parade they say: Prince & the Revolution Parade (1986) Squeezed out between a psychedelic curio (Around the World in a Day) and a career-defining double album (Sign o' the Times), Parade shows Prince in all his contrary glory. From the quirky cabaret of Under the Cherry Moon to the sweeping, epic pop of Mountains, it's got the lot, including the daringly minimal Kiss - perhaps his greatest song. http://music.guardian.co....50,00.html "Todo está bien chévere" Stevie

That's a bit surprising that they chose Parade out of all of his albums - but hell I agree too

Yeah, I've been collecting the supplements and was very happy to see Parade up there - My favourite album of all.

Parade is the best album to play on a beautiful Spring day; it has no competition.
It's probably my fourth favourite Prince album ever. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

They sure have a point there.
Purple Rain is almost perfect in a way its presents the "Minneapolis sound" to the mainstremam public. Every song 'hits' the listener in a catchy, direct and energetic way. Sign of the Times is almost perfect in a way that it is a kaleidoscopic double album, diverse and eclectic, covering the whole range of the artists creativity (Like the White album has done before for the individual strengths of the the members of the Beatles). Parade is an album that confuses many people on first listening, that sounds flawed at first, like: three catchy, funky gems (Girls and Boys, Mountains and Kiss) mixed with more surreal, quirky songs, which sound like halfbaken soundscapes or sonic experiments. But when you listen to Parade longer and longer, its the kind of album that 'flows' in a magnificant way, and as a whole retains some kind of unspecific charm and magic, that was probably unintended (Prince personally slashed the record after it was released), but it definitely 'works'.

I agree. Upon first listen, it sounds like a bizarre, rushed mixture of classic pop songs and unfinished experiments. It takes time and close listening to really appreciate all of its subtle nuances.
