Happy belated birthday, . This was the first album I bought, and totally turned me on to all the Prince ethos, with its theme and mystery. Great stuff. Your memories of this album???

My god it just seems as if that album was out two - three years ago! I have happy memories listening to this. My friend got married when this album was out and I remember sitting in the car with her singing along to '7' and 'And God created woman' Good album. . . not one of my fav's - but good.

Before this album got released, a radio station that i used to listen to had an advance cd and they played (about once an hour!) "Damn U" "The Continental" "The Max" and "7"... they played the tracks all weekend long and it was like heaven when I went to the wrecka stow and got my own copy!
This is all of course, when people still cared about Prince... a lot can change in 10 years!

Happy belated birthday, . This was the first album I bought, and totally turned me on to all the Prince ethos, with its theme and mystery. Great stuff. Your memories of this album??? You too? This was the first album I ever brought with my own money. I waited for months to buy this album and I couldn't have been more pleased with it. I was listening to it yesterday and it's still just as funky 10 years later as it was when I listened to it after school that day. I just wish that Prince had released more songs off of it. I wish Damn U would have been sent to Pop radio and not just the R&B market. And The Max would have been hot for the Spring/Summer of 93. A lot of missed opportunity in that album but it's still one of my favorites. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I just popped into the car player the other day again, and started to re-discover it once again. Out of the 90's Prince albums, I think it is one of my faves. There's just so many great jams on it!!!
Gosh, I can't believe that album is 10 years old already? Where does the time go? --If a man is considered guilty for what goes on in his mind, then give me the electric chair for all my future crimes.-- Electric Chair/Batman/Prince

Just listened this mornign 2 the last 4 songs - what a coincidence!
Always thought this album was underrated. I actually think it has a lot in common with TRC - concept/story album with religious overtones, semi-autobiographical, Egyptian theme, story of new relationship + tongue-in-cheek mythical status (a la George Clinton). I actually wrote about it in my final paper for university - it was on postmodernism, and I talked about the way P blurred the distinctions between art, popular culture and reality, and between texts and their meaning (signifieds and signifiers for u semioticians). I was 1st exposed 2 songs from the album before it was released, when P played them on stage while he toured Oz at the end of the D&P tour, so it's kind of special 4 me. "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"
"That's becuase we're soulless auttomatons"

First time? Graffiti Bridge wasn't dissappointing to you? or Batman? o(+> is imo one of his not-too-good albums as a whole, but for some reason i have lots of good memories related to it. Lots of good songs, but too many crappy ones too. Dont listen to it very often. [This message was edited Tue Oct 15 4:46:41 PDT 2002 by prinssi] ********************************************

I LOVE this album! This is actually the last Prince CD that I liked all the way through. There isn't a bad song anywhere on the album. The music sounds energized and inspired, and it's clear that he was in love when he concieved these tracks.Sadly, there were sooo many strong songs that were not released as singles...
***"The Continental"---this rock/funk number should have been all over MTV.It's sexy and wild, like the best Prince singles from the past. ***"And God Created Woman"---Love this song!! A beautiful, breezy midtempo gem that would have made an awesome music video. ***"Damn U"---I agree with the person who said that this song should have been sent to pop radio.Warners foolishly treated it as R&B song, when,in reality,it has all the makings of a Pop Top Ten smash (like George Michael's "Kissing A Fool",or the best songs by Harry Connick Jr.).

This album has a few gems admidst a lot of filler IMO. I tried to listen to it again this week to see if it had "got better" over time. It hasn't.
Killer opening pair of tracks, the sheer joy that is Morning Papers. Then not much, apart from Blue Light, until you scramble you're way through to 7, then back downhill. I've tried hard to like this over the years, but it just isn't my thing at all. -----------------------------------------
