Foo Fighters site VS Prince's NPGMC...

I signed up for the Foo Fighters mailing list on their site. I just got an email today notifying me of a concert in Minneapolis. They sent me a special password to purchase tickets ahead of the general public. You know what this membership cost me? NOTHING. You know how often the folks at their site contact me and send me emails (granted its bulk email, but still, at least you know theyre alive), like every few days!

Maybe Prince should take some pointers from a band who respects their fans.

They also have virtual listening parties and other fun stuff going on. They dont rape their fans for the priviledge of viewing this stuff either.

More stuff from the email:

":: WANNA HEAR ONE BY ONE?

Cool with us! But you didn't think you'd get to hear it without doing a little hustling did you? Hit the ONE BY ONE Virtual Listening Party and follow the directions. By the end of the week you'll be able to hear ONE BY ONE in it's entirety! But you got some homework to do boss so get crackin'!

Here's how:

1) When you first visit the VLP you see a form to sign up to the mailing list. Don't worry if you are already on it, just sign up again. YOUR INFO WILL ONLY BE USED TO SEND YOU NEWSLETTERS AND INFO ABOUT THE FOO FIGHTERS ONLY! It will NOT be sold or used by anyone else besides FooFighters.com and BMG/RCA.

2) When you FIRST visit the VLP after you sign in, you will automatically be on "Level 1", and you will ONLY have access to ONE track, "All My Life".

3) To earn EACH new "Level" of the VLP, you will be given a chance to send an invitation to the VLP to 2 of your friends, and they will ALSO need to visit the VLP. (Don't worry, you aren't selling them out. We don't collect info from them unless they offer it up when they accept your invite!)

4) We will be adding 2 new levels - each containing 1 new track - EACH day this week until Midnight (Los Angeles, CA local time) this Friday, October 18th, when you will have access to the whole album - IF you have reached the highest level, Level #11! That means you have until FRIDAY to send this VLP to 20 of your buddies WHO AREN'T PARTICIPATING IN THIS SAME CONTEST! That's right, we're checking!

5) Make sure you use ONE computer to do this, because if you switch around, your score WILL BE LOST!

After friday, and over the next few months, we will keep adding levels which will have exclusive audio downloads, contests, and other cool stuff, so the more levels you reach, the more you will get!"

its realy strange .that prince wanted his freedom and release his creations on a special site the npgmusicclub. it sounds beautiful npgmusicclub.the first year was cool and fun.ok there were some mistakes but what the hell its the first year so we understand this.the second year its become the npg-no-musicclub or the npg-if u want prince news don't look here-club.eye have been thinking ok he's very bussy and he cant be doing everything at the same time.and eye sure we are going 2 get our c.d's .butwhy don't he give us something while waiting .something 2 download or a videoclip or something.but there is nothing happening at all on his so called freedom site.its more fun 2 watch pokeman cartoons everyday then look at his npgmusicclub.eye'm glad there is going 2 b a concert .otherwise it would b a very borring year.
eye have a idea .why don't we all have a strike next year with the new year.just wake him up a little bit .don't becomme a member .if the club is not going 2 get more open and less borring.believe me if will work .he needs the money 2 u know!!!.
woekie woekie!!!

NPGMC does not only provide you with priority seating, it also gives exclusive access to Soundchecks and free access to aftershows and after-parties.

Plus of course, you (will soon) recieve 4 CD's per year.

The Foo Fighters site does sound very good though. I think everyone can learn something from each other, but last time I looked despite being a great band Foo Fighters have not made the stand against record companies that Prince has.

Foo Fighters are not independent like Prince. They are backed by a major multinational.

When supporting something like the NPGMC, you are essentially supporting the artist's vision.

first off, the foo fighters' new album comes out a week from today, and its fucking great. imagine the first album (the self-titled one) mixed with "there is nothing left to lose"... simply SLAMMIN!

second, they don't have to give out four cds, because its pretty much common knowledge that they realize how the corporate machine works, and do their best to coexist with it in a somewhat symbiotic relationship, as opposed to the little midget (god love him!) who feels like rules don't apply to him. don't like the contract? don't sign it, you fucking idiot!
now i know what this is all about. now i know exactly what i am.
