It´s supposedly written for Jill Jones. I have the handwritten lyric sheet on the CD-Rom that came with the Days Of Wild book by the Uptown staff and Per Nielsen. Looks like it was written in a hotel room because of the paper.

This song is one of my top favorites.

Classic 80's prince but to me it's timeless, just listened to it this afternoon as a matter of face, I lump together with 17 days. Brilliant, simple but effective emotion.

It's about J.J. The song is bangin'! 17 Days was cool but at P's peak, which was 84, 17 Days should have NOT been a single. She's Always In My Hair on the other hand, is better than ANYTHING on the whole ATWIAD album. So yeah, it goes without saying that it should have been released as a single. A lead off single as well. The album would have sold a lot better than it did if that song was included on the album. But this was when P first started getting off on holding back "hit" material and releasing far more inferior songs.

As a musician, I always read this song as an ode to his muse, meaning music itself. The inspiration is always in his hair, "even if he hits the wrong note, she's always in my boat" very supportive as the creative drive is. I always think of this great song when i point to the years Prince was so good that his b sides were better than most of the stuff on his albums.

Also, as most of us musicians know, we are obsessed with music, therefore "in my hair" can be a term hinting that it can be a nuisance.

A masterpiece that's also haunting (to me). The ice-blue stabbing synths still give me chills to this very day.

i like the synths, reminiscent of dirty laundry and i absolutely love the guitar riff, so simple yet effective, the mark of prince at his peak. You guys are making me want to adapt the song to piano. What a song.
