This is classic mid 80's Prince pop/funk. One of his greatest compositions. I spent much of my youth trying to understand why this wasnt a single and one of the biggest hits to reach mankind.

Thankfully Im over that now, and still listen to the song in a trancelike state. It still makes my goose pimple!!

This song reminds me of my mom -- and how she used to gripe when my sisters and I were little that she wanted someone to "get these damn kids out of my hair!" mad

lol
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I especially like when he sung She's Always In My Hair at the Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic 2002 Concert(Paisley Park). It was simply beautiful. I only wish Mayte would have been the "dancer" as she is seen watching.

razz This is the happy love theme of my relationship w/my boyfriend. Of COURSE I love this song. However beyond that, I really think it is a sweet song. It's hard to find lyrics like the ones in this song in today' music.

Love this song so much, especially the extended version! "Maybe I'll marry her...maybe I won't", it's all so good in that honest sort of train-of-thought way. I listen to this song almost every day and it always sounds new fallinluv
Sounds like a real man to me...mind if I turn on the radio?

Often a lot of times for writers it may not totally about one person. To the point; it may have been inspired by JJ, but I have to think that by the time it hit the vynil there were some references to Sheila and Wendy?
It gets to the pseudo relationships we get when we're not sure.

I posted this on Housequake a while ago. It is partially based on information from the book - Prince: The Studio Sessions.

According to my notes, it was recorded on Friday, December 30 1983 in Studio 3 at Sunset Sound. Prince was staying at the Le Parc Hotel in West Hollywood (which is where he wrote the lyrics earlier that week - BTW they are included on the UPTOWN 'Days of Wild' CD-Rom). His usual engineer, Peggy Mac, was on vacation and the session was run by Bill Jackson. The entire song was tracked on that day and even had a brief extra part that was never released. The mix of the song had a false ending similar to the 12" version, but then it came back up to hear a few notes. It was almost a tip of the hat to The fab four because the tune is very a very Beatle sounding tune.

Also, the original lyrics started with the phrase "A boy got killed at Disneyland today. Some say he was trying to be Superman." Now that would have been a different song.

Regarding Jill Jones' inspiration her comments to me were: "I think we were having an argument and I think Prince sometimes got confused with me. He wanted to do the right thing but a lot of times he just couldn’t. We were all just too young."

Hope that 'splains some of this.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Easily one of the greatest uses of metaphor in any love song EVER! You have to be mad-talented just to come up with concepts like this and now it's totally ingrained in my psyche...

Love that song...
