For next album Prince should re-record tunes acoustically after over-production

I've been listening to "Love (acoustic version)" all day and I marvel just how talented and gifted he is at writing songs acoustically on guitar. "Shy", the Truth CD, I'm usually skeptical at how good a new Prince album is after the music has been overproduced, but whatever music he produces with his next album during post-production scrap those songs and re-record them using acoustic guitar arrangements. It would certainly open more casual fans eyes' of his talents of a singer-songwriter, and seconly it would make people understand just how much of "serious" musician he is rather than an acclaimened and legendary pop star.

He already did The Truth. He will never release a second acoustic album.

the guitar parts are a direct rip off of Jose Feliciano's Light My Fire.

an acoustic album of this style is only good for one listen, unless you're into simple easy listening.

This version of "Love" sounds like a rip off of the much played classic song "Spooky" to me.

If he did another acoustic album it would have to have a really weird concept, otherworldly melodies and crazy lyrics to keep me interested.

Only so many notes in the world; sooner or later they will fall in the same or similar order to some other sequence of notes or timing. I don't think that qualifies it as a rip-off.

Hell to the naw! He might as well put on a cowboy hat, some shit kicker boots, spit skoal, and drive around in a big ass pickup truck with a rebel flag painted in the back window because that's what accoustical music sounds like....country hillbilly hick music.

on 3121.com, check it out.

I agree that LOVE sounds awesome, kind of like when he did the acoustic version of Space. The problem with making an album of "Love" type songs is that people will kill him for underproducing and being lazy (like they did for PE). Love sounds great because 3121 was probably a little overproduced, and the song sounds good simple. However, it would be boring to hear a whole album like this unless it had a real concept to it or was mixed with some other instruments (like symphony, etc).

He did The Truth, all the songs on that would have been great if they were fully produced, but the record is hard to listen to because his playing style is so similar.

I hope he does another acoustic album one day, but I think he needs to do something amazing to pull it off.. otherwise it will get slaughtered..

Cheek

People should stop telling what Prince should do. neutral

And this "over-production" shit again... rolleyes

If you can't enjoy his music the way it is then change for Joe Cocker. cool

I don't understand what people mean by that either. I've never heard anything by Prince that I thought he produced too much. Many bootlegs I've heard were certainly under-produced, but that's because they weren't finished yet (which is why I understand how he wouldn't want anyone listening to them).

But this "over-produced" statement, I believe; is just a term some people throw around when they can't think of anything else to say (IMHO).

What's funny is that the album version of Love is quite minimal and underproduced to my ears, it sounds like it was done very quickly with raw sounds off a keyboard with no tweaking or sound design. The beat is skeletal for being electronic. Same goes for Lolita.

The Truth is one of my least favorite albums. It's nice to have this acoustic version but I'd take the album version any day over the acoustic version.

I dread the day Prince decides to make a totally Acoustic album.

I don't understand why people get all excited when artists do acoustic versions of songs, they can be good but on the whole I find them a bit boring.

I don't understand why people get excited over acoustical music either. Stripped down acoustical music is definately boring because it's "simple" and I have never liked anything simple. "Simple" is dull. Hell, I want something high powered behind the lyrics that's gonna shake the walls and blow the roof off the building.

I noticed all these acoustical albums coming out after that Milli Vanilli scandal because people wanted to prove that they could play. Yeah, they could play alright but stripping it down made it sound boring as hell. Plus, it made it sound like folk or country music. When I was growing up, we used to laugh and make fun of folk and country music but these folks today actually like it. I tell ya, the whole world has lost their damn mind. lol

There is definately a place for stripped down acoustic music.

Imagin "Sometimes it snows in April" if it were over produced.

What a shame that would be.

Can a I get an Amen?

And the acoutsic set he did for MTV a few years ago. Fantastic.
