There is not a thing as "STOP LIKING PRINCE", I tried itback in the 90's and I swear it's easier to give up any habit than to give up Prince because once he's got you, you're hooked he's just always in there just waiting for a chance to come out! Be afraid, be Very afraid. sad

Alright, I'd like to clarify a couple points here.

1- During a BET interview, Prince himself said"If you look up the word fanatic, it's pretty scary" He was also refering to a female fan he had contact with and who suddenly appeared uninvited at his door. He had to call security to get her out of his property.

2- I attended the Friday night parties at Paisley Park for a very long time and I never saw him communicating with his fans for one minute even in a small place. He's go right away to the sound board protected by Aaron and Charles (his body guards at that time). No eye-contact, no waving Hi, no smiles, nothing...He would walk among the crowd and nothing either.

3- I live in Minneapolis and came across people who met him one way or another. A make-up artist told me she had to talk through somebody else. A hair dresser was told not to talk to him directly either. Many reference to a non-direct communication.

Often going to far - I admit. But how can you just stop the strong feeling you have? And why does Prince keep feeding you if he don't like it? Why are some obsessions "allowed", just depending on the situation (Prince himself have been obsessed several times - but that's OK, right)? And why are the feelings a fan have less "real" than any feeling for anyone? Maybe it's even worse to be an "obsessive" fan, though you never get a chance to release your feelings... I refuse to have my feelings judged and chategorised by anyone!! I love Prince to the 9's and more...until he personally tells me to stop. It's as simple as that wink

I would NEVER, EVER cross any lines in reality!! I respect Princes physical integrity to 100 %. I'm not crazy (well.. neutral)! Internet is btw a crazy thing though it's so easy to say things you would never say face to face with a person...to easy to cross the line here...

Maybe Prince should open a "Prince-reahab" website for those in a desperate need of it lol

This is true!

Sadly I would never really be so open and playful with strangers like this face to face! neutral

So true, that on the web you can get away with saying things that you normally wouldn't do in real life. The fact is in my case is in real life, I'm chicken and probably wouldn't even speak to him. I'm intensely shy!

Vanity45: what did you mean by Prince being obsessed? What kind of obsessions? You mean like with girls or obsessed as a fan himself?
lol

If you've ever witnessed that man in concert you know that the minute he walks on stage he just changes the energy in the air, before he even opens his mouth, it's almost like a spell that touches each and every person in the room. You are forever hooked.

i totally agree with you, im sure he is a master in hypnotherapy (is that the word im looking for?) BUT it doesnt mean that you have to be obsessed to danger level with him .....not saying that that is what you were implying here, most people know where to stop i think but like i have said before there are those in the minority that dont.

Yeah, I've been a fan since the early 80's too, my first concert was Purple rain and I can't for the life of me understand what anyone that didn't witness Prince at his best would be fasinated with today, cause there is nothing out here to compare with Prince, the way he used to be. Well, I'm sure Prince is the kind of person who gets obsessive from time to time like most people. With girls for example, like Kim Basinger or Vanity...Guess I was just trying to put things in a different perspective than the superstar/fan-thing. Prince is a human being like the rest of us...to be a fan with the feelings you have for him, is probably the same kind of feelings that he have felt and feels too.

1- I repeated what Prince said in an interview. He said quote: "fan is a short word for fanatic and if you look it up it's pretty scary" Prince's words not mine.
2- Didn't I say:" Don't get me wrong, I've been a fan since..." I didn't say anything against Prince but against obsessive fans going too far.

Peace!

Ok, I gotcha.

For the most part I think that limiting his physical contact with fans is a prudent policy. He walked right up to myself and a couple of friends in Vegas, we chatted very amiably with him for a few minutes and nobody fammed out but I have to ask myself how often he's able to do that?

Other than that it would be cool if he would post a blog once in awhile on 3121.com...unless he insists on using princeybonics in which case I'll pass. lol

That aside, how the hell ya been girlie! wave I ain't seen you around these parts for a minute. biggrin

Aren't you lucky he walked right up to you and your friends to chat for a few minutes? How many time has he done that?
Well, I'm glad he gets to do it once in a while.

It was unexpected and he was very cordial, but I don't think he could do it often without getting mobbed. Just to be able to tell him some things I'd wanted to say to him was enough for me.

I guess if you are being simple and plain about it, If you are a female, you may dream of being married to Prince. I would love to spend every day with the man, but only if I made him happy. Prince music may be all there is, and that's been beautiful to have around. I understand. He's sweet.

I almost feel the same way about fans who came on-board at about the same time you did, because by the time "Purple Rain" came out, Prince had already toned his entire act down so much, that very little of what he jumped out the box with was still there.

I first saw Prince perform in 1979 when he was opening for Rick James, and I couldn't believe what I was seeing eek !

I guess my point is, no matter how many ways Prince may change himself, he still finds a way to make his presentation appealing.

I agree with that.

Occasionally, my imagination will run away with me and I contempelate how we'd cross paths and what I'd say in case we ever did.
But that's only on occasion.

What goes through my mind [and heart] when I hear his music is my personal business and I won't go too much into that.

Except on the picture threads and romance threads, I haven't said anything too outrageous that would scare him off. I've kept things pretty chill, and I've written nothing here that I'd be embarassed about if he read. I keep that possibility in mind, so I try to limit how much "fanaticsm" I express.

Rave reviews of his albums is mostly praise and my own opinions on how the music comes across. With the exception of one thread, I've been perfectly honest and haven't gone too far. I say what I feel and wait for others to respond, if they ever do.

It has always been a huge goal in my life to meet Prince, and I don't care how unlikely it is to happen, I'll be hoping and praying for it forever. He has done so much for me in my life and I would love to say thank you face to face. I would never be obsessive or impolite, though I might tear up a bit or be prone to fainting.

I call myself a fan, it ain't the word but the behavior. I've never plucked a hair from his head, or a thread out of his clothes. He'll never wake up and find me standing on his doorstep. I don't think he's really worried about fans like me. I show up at the concerts, act like a damned fool, and then carry my behind home.
