Are there sometimes when you wish Prince was Terence Trent D'Arby?

... and I don't mean in a sycophantic, preaning pop-star kind of way: I mean in a wait and edit and release killer albums kind of way?

TTD has released, what, five albums? Introducing, Fish, Symphony, Vibrator and Wildcard (plus some internet stuff)... each has been a minor miracle in aural pleasure.

Prince (vastly more talented and self-assured, and who I could imagine could work at a faster work-rate) has released virtually an album a year for his whole career and the total is way less that the sum of the parts... if you get what I mean.

I think I mean I wish Prince had/was a good editor.

no I don't. I like the workrate Prince has and I'll always maintain that he doesn't put out "bad" albums. Some simply not as strong as others. TTD and many artists release albums years apart, sometimes they are great sometimes they are a bust. people are always going to be dissatisfied with something. TTD's Fish Nor Flesh was a colossal bomb as were his 3 and 4 albums, although I think they were great songs on each of those albums, so sales only means so much. I still consider Symphony or Damn the last great concept album. he would have also done himself a favor not to be so abrasive in interviews.

I see what you mean, but the power of each of the TTD albums, beyond album sales - Fish was a colossal failure, as was Vibrator... I think Symphony did OK in the UK - however, TTD's appreciation of 'quality' for want of a better word seems to leave Prince in the dirt. There appears 'thought' behind TTD's releases... I would imagine that the last time I would use that word in relation to a Prince album would be The Rainbow Children... The others appear 'thought' in a commercial rather than artistic mode, if you know what I mean.

Oh, also, there appears a sense of experimentation on TTD's albums that has been missing from Prince's since Paisley Park came online... Gone are the days of If I Was Your Girlfriend and The Ballad of Dorothy Parker, everything sounds so clean, precise and 'overcooked'. TTD still appears to have the ear for a good 'sound'... I'm using way too many speech marks... I feel like Ross.

I love TTD, crazy about him and hope he tours here soon. I thought his voice was better than Prince's and his lyrics were amongst the best in rock. I think his weaknesses were timing, hip-hop and grunge were getting underway before he could solidly establish himself as a funk-rock artist. His first album was a big hit and I love lots of his other work but I think he may have tried to imitate Prince a little too much. He had the talent to not have to do that. When I say imitate, I mean with the whole being wierd, mystical and the whole wardrobe thing. i mean Prince changes his name so ttd has to change his name. I love the guy but I don't think that helped his career.

"Do I wish all my Prince music was TTD?" Not actually the question. If you go back and "re-read" the thread perhaps you'd spot this. And anyway, what you got against TTD? You have history with him or something?

It makes perfeect sense... TTD appears to care about what he puts out, Prince seems to rush to put stuff out... If Prince adopted TTD's approach (albeit with a furiously busy bootleg/online release source) the albums would dramatically improve and Prince would be able to maintain both his artistic standing and his productivity... consider the Gold era... when Prince had to hold on to stuff, he produce two of his finest albums in years.

I am not familiar with all of Terence's music, however, I do believe that you
have to have a specific curriculum to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I don't know if Terrence will achieve this or not, as Prince has.

I'm sorry, are you paid to endorse links to the R'n'R HOF? Or, are you trying to one up TTD? Or, are you reverting to a 'Prince is better that TTD' argument? Either way, you are wrong... and go and read the thread again and come back with a proper response... as opposed to the knee-jerk 'I'm a true Prince fan' one you've entered this discussion with.

As sarcastic an entry as yours? Let's hope.
