T's skills as a lyricist, vocalist, pianist and producer are probably more highly developed than Prince's. But Prince is far and away more skilled as a showman, guitarist and bassist. Plus Prince has shown an ear for "what's hot" in pop music that T has yet to display. Most Prince records have at least one, sure fire easy to classify radio song on it. T has never done that. His hits have come in spite of pop trends, not becuase of them. Also a lot of T's records are for a more sophisticated listener.
Should Prince be more patient in the studio? You could say that, but then again, when he has show patience we got Emancipation and Gold: solid records that sound overproduced.

Why on earth would I wish Prince was Terence Trent D'Arby??
I gotta quote Kida on this one: "HELL 2 THA NIZZAW!"

I understand what you are saying....I think Prince should have let TTD produce some of his stuff and they should have collaborated about 10 years ago when they both were at interesting creative peaks....but the both equally have failed to expose their new music to the masses since the early nineties. Princes "comeback" albums while they sold semi respectfully are just really excuses to tour.

Only in that TTD/Sananda seems to still be interested in pushing forward with his music (not just creatively but in distributing new work fairly regularly and creatively), and that Sananda appears interested in communicating with his fans. Otherwise, I'm happy with Prince being Prince and Sananda being Sananda.

The idea that this thread was a simple straight swap belies what is written in the opening gambit... How about a different question then: Prior to his most recent studio release, at appears that TTD went through a major phase of self-editing and song selection, waiting (whilst embroiled in contract differences) so that he was completely pleased with the material he could release - don't you sometimes wish Prince would do the same thing?
He got away with it in the 80s when he was on a creative rollercoaster - he himself thought he should have waited longer before the realease of Parade, for example, and many think this his finest record to date. TRE children is a great example of Prince having something to say/songs of quality - by and large - the albums since have been nothing but (generalisation alert) cynical marketing ploys to ensure mass-media coverage prior to tours (the real arena for musicians to make money). Someone mentioned Emancipation as an example of Prince's work once he's waited for a while. The suggestion is not that he merely waits, but that he is selective about the material he puts out. Further to this - the bootleg stuff that comes from the 80s reinforces the idea that Prince was selective about his output, even though it came at such a startling rate. I may have been out of the inner-cliche of the Prince-fan-world over the past few years, but I can't find much evidence of 'studio' based bootlegs for his most recent albums. There appear to be fewer, which may indicate a less selective Prince at work here.

Well, Prince himself has admitted that he's a poor editor of his own work... but that's part of what makes him interesting, imo.

NO!!!!!I like Prince.I think TTD thought he would as big as
Prince an it didn't work out,I don't think he didn't try as much as he should have, I think he could have made a name for his self.

they are like two lovers who stimulate in differnt ways and it's easy to think about the other when the one your with frustrates u. TTD is my man but he's often overly poetic to the point of meandering, i then miss princes grasp on song structure. prince can be over produced and too shiny, then i miss TTD's grit and willingness to remain experimental. i dont mind princes workrate although i wish he would be more thoughtful.
