OH HELL TO THE NAW!!!!!
Does Madonna play over 20 instruments (self-taught). No. Is Madonna the talented songwriter that Prince is? Again, no. Case closed. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

vivid said: xenophobia2002 said: it will take place !!! She is already in rehearsal for her tour next year, which will sell out concerts all over the world again and again, something prince can only dream off.... She also does not need to put a Cd free with a UK paper, just like Prince, cause she knows her CD will sell anyways (Prince wake up, how many Planet Earth) copies did you sell ?? So, speaking about it, Madonna is a much better business person as Prince, she has better lawyers to get her a good deal, and she now has some good concert promotors as well. Guess who will be the no 1 artist next year, not only for Cd sales, but also for concert gross [Edited 10/11/07 11:03am] You don't quite get it, do you? Of course Madonna will be huge and make pots of money. Art and Business have always been awkward bedfellows. Madonna is lucky in that she doesn't have any artistic integrity to get in the way of making money. Let's not forget that she can't actually sing, play or write a song (yeah, I know she 'co-writes' - so do the Spice Girls). She is a genius at jumping aboard bandwagons and marketing herself (her recent collaring of Gogol Bordello at Live Earth the latest case in point). Prince himself has served that purpose on what was easily her best album. The difference between them is that Madonna's music doesn't matter, in musical terms, People talk about Madonna, not her music. She's a great star, her music is fun to dance around too. So, you're right if you're trying to point out that Madonna is the better business person, but I think you'll find the whole world knows that already. If, you're trying to say something else, perhaps you should elaborate. [Edited 10/11/07 12:19pm] but madonnas music is good, confessions on a dancefloor was her return to top form, when was the last prince album that really made you say wow? (by the way i do really like prince but she needs credit where its due)

some of you are really missing the point. Of course Prince is much more talented than Madonna....thats why if she's getting $120M, Prince should be getting $220m..
Get it? | |

Excuse me but didn't Prince sign his $100 million dollar contract waaaay back in like 1992???? Only about 15 years before Madonna????? Ignorance must be a happy place. FYI: that deal Prince got was only because other artists were getting similar deals at the time. Like... Madonna. Except that her vanity record label actually had people on it that sold records. http://query.nytimes.com/...A964958260 Madonna, in partnership with Time Warner, will form her own multi-media entertainment company, Maverick. Under a 7-year arrangement, which can be extended to 11 years, Madonna, who is 33 years old, will be advanced as much $60 million, making this one of the most lucrative contracts offered to a pop star. The long-term commitment is comparable in scale to a similar deal that Sony signed last year with Michael Jackson.
FYI: I wouldn't be surprised if Mads actually got that $60 million and plenty more. Whereas Prince got only a fraction of the $100 million. Forbes estimates she's worth $325 million. http://www.forbes.com/200...ide_5.html © Bart Van Hemelen

His passion is music Her passion is money... Yeah, Prince's passion is music. That's why he's playing private gigs for lotsa money, that's why he's pulling stupid stunts instead of letting the music doing the talking, that's why he's shopping his albums to majors, etc. Do I really need to remind you of the "number 1 at the bank" baloney? © Bart Van Hemelen

Pur-lease. Innovators vs imitator. read miles bio and see that he said that prince music is NEW and origins in 88-89. so i guess miles knows more about music than most of us...and ur the exception, so please teach us some more! [Edited 10/13/07 10:12am]

xenophobia2002 said: vivid said: [/b] Point 1 - That makes no sense - What has being a musical 'inventor' (innovator perhaps?) got to do with chart positions? Totally unrelated. Point 2 - Prince has always used lots of 'technical' sounds - He has been a hugely influential producer because of it, but on which planet has that got anything to do with the fact that he is a fantastic musician? Madonna on the other hand is nothing of the sort. Madonna is a very influential pop star. Prince is a genius. And your arguments just serve to make that clear (to those who didn't already know). just read the 2 posts above !! Over 50 years Prince will be known as the man who used to make good music, but somehow lost it ..... Madonna will top all charts, succesfull recordings (whether you like 'em or not), succesfull concert tours etc Hugely influental producer ... you live on Planet Earth ????? Or Planet Moon Planet Moon? Why? Is he big there too? No, seriously - Don't take my word for it - just go ask Timbaland, Pharell Williams, Kanye, Dallas Austin, Felix da Housecat, Outkast... or indeed anyone who knows what they're talking about (even Madonna herself or rather the host of producers she's employed). Oh, and I do like Madonna - as I said her music is good pop (most of the time), I just don't have delusions regarding her musical importance. Her business acumen is not in question. In any other decade previous to the eighties, she would have also made millions as a manager or executive.

I wouldn't be surprised if Madonna has taken some advise from Prince on her deal, or at least has been thinking along very similar lines to him.
They've clearly worked out that there's more money to be made from tours than from their small percentage from album sales. I'm sure artists like Bowie have been doing this for years, but I think Prince is the first of his generation to wise up, and it's going to kill the labels.

Madonna doesnt have 1/3 of Prince´s talent, but she is smart and knows how to hire the best people in the biz to help her. And she has a major record $upport too. That´s why her videos, shows, remixes, etc are very well produced
But when it comes to music...Prince makes she look like an amateur

yeah financially she makes a lot of people look like scrubs, but she'd pay a large chunk of that to be blessed with princes talent.

No marketing genius is more like it - he knows that the music industry is in major turmoil (and has known this since 1996) and is helping shape the future of how musicians distribute their music to the masses. He is a superstar thus why he makes lots of money - duh The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.
