That's because Madonna is still under contract to a record company. Prince isn't. Apples/oranges.

Read the fine print. Little does she know that she's about make the same mistake Prince made over a decade ago. All she sees is dollars sign right now. She will learn what it's like to be a slave!

Remember the "Mariah Math" Prince did on Leno....?

I don't think so. I think Maddy is smart to reinvent herself as far as her presence in the music industry...

...actually LiveNation is not a record label it is a concert promotion firm...they are just paying her to distribute her cds/merchandise, promote her concerts...soooo in essence she is not even signed to a record label now and getting paid by concert promoters to do their job but doing it in a way to copy record labels AND without them giving input in how she creates her music like a traditional label would.....this is what record labels SHOULD be...distributors who give their artists the money they deserve WITHOUT being creative policemen...very smart move indeeed

lOL her music is not as Good as Prince's but this is a seriously genius and historic move...and a much smarter way to get more money and respect from labels then suing Youtube....HIT THE RECORD LABELS AND NOT THE FANS!..BRAVO MADONNA!

besides at Least Madonna is smart enough to know she needs help distributing her music YET without the creative restrictions instead of making a "Paisley Park" which barely promotes music, is horrific when selling tickets to events, and seems to mess up things repeatedly....we need to get beyond our hatred of Madonna's music and see that heck...she may be on to something

lol Prince sold tickets at 3121 for $125 each, and has had tickets in the thousands of dollars for private performance...I'm sure if Prince was playing in NYC for that much then there would still be fans on here going without a problem.....All I care about is the fact artists are getting the money they think they deserve , without creative restriction, and truly sticking it to the record labels...and a high ticket price isn't hitting the fans...you go if you can afford it and if you can't and really want to go...well save up for next time but at least you can see it on youtube prolly the next week or on some corny NBC/HBO special lol

heck honestly her prices may go down since the label isn't going to be taking such a big chunk out of her concert revenue now...

How is Prince suing Youtube hurting the fans !!! ( He has not sued You Tube as of today and I don't think he will. Just a threat.

He has really good concert footage on his website and we all managed to live off of boots before Youtube came along.

Prince has had very affortable concert ticket prices at arena shows. Compare his prices to any superstar act. His prices on the lower end compare favorably to small, indie acts and venues.

Since when does ticket cost and the amount the artist is making off of a gig define weather they are an armature or not?

Prince is no armature...he makes as much money as he wants when he wants, and I don't think being competitive with other artists really comes into play as far as he's concerned. wink

IMO Madonna is enslaving herself, it seems she is afraid to take risk. Prince has more respect in the music industry than any other artist very simply because of what he is doing today in the industry itself. You can't get any Bigger than Prince. Lastly, Warner Bros still have a hold on Madonna and her music. I have a sneaky suspicion this deal will not take place.

it will take place !!!

She is already in rehearsal for her tour next year, which will sell out concerts all over the world again and again, something prince can only dream off....

She also does not need to put a Cd free with a UK paper, just like Prince, cause she knows her CD will sell anyways (Prince wake up, how many Planet Earth)
copies did you sell ??

So, speaking about it, Madonna is a much better business person as Prince, she has better lawyers to get her a good deal, and she now has some good concert promotors as well. Guess who will be the no 1 artist next year, not only for Cd sales, but also for concert gross

You don't quite get it, do you?

Of course Madonna will be huge and make pots of money. Art and Business have always been awkward bedfellows. Madonna is lucky in that she doesn't have any artistic integrity to get in the way of making money. Let's not forget that she can't actually sing, play or write a song (yeah, I know she 'co-writes' - so do the Spice Girls).

She is a genius at jumping aboard bandwagons and marketing herself (her recent collaring of Gogol Bordello at Live Earth the latest case in point). Prince himself has served that purpose on what was easily her best album.

The difference between them is that Madonna's music doesn't matter, in musical terms, People talk about Madonna, not her music. She's a great star, her music is fun to dance around too.

So, you're right if you're trying to point out that Madonna is the better business person, but I think you'll find the whole world knows that already.

If, you're trying to say something else, perhaps you should elaborate.

I agreed. Like Prince I'd rather be "free" doing what I want 2 do, how I want 2 do it with my music/creativity than to be enslaved. Believe it or not more and more artist will follow Prince....See 3121 (NIN quote 10-8) very interesting. Note: the love/passion 4 money is the very "root" 2 evil.

NIN ... talking about a band no one has really heard of recently

Musically.. Prince has NOT been an inventor like he used to be, whereas Madonna still attracts a lot of young people as well. Whether or not you like her music, there is no denying about that. She gets airplay, her singles are donloaded by young people, she gets the no 1 positions.

I don't give me that real music by real musicians reference.... take a listen at Planet Earth, lots of "technical" music as well
