Prince is ridiculous in this respect.fine, if a site has links to boots or files to download, but is having galleries or pics of him a crime now?

Why can't you have a bloody gallery?

prince should get a grip!

did you read the statement at www.princefan.net... now, this approach differs considerably from www.freemyheart.com and Matt's, doesn't it?

It's an old article from the City Pages, a weekly magazine based in MPLS... if you are interested - it's mostly about the old UPTOWN magazine lawsuit - but it also attempts to explain why Prince does these things...neutral

An excerpt:

The Artist, however, disagrees, according to press representative Lois Najarian. "He can tell the difference between a fan site and when people are trying to make money off his image".

People just don't like to get sued over nothing. It's not like Prince or his fans are worth it.

Clearing up:

The PaisleyParkVault.Com! as the Stylecipation.Com! are being threatend already for quit some years now. Threads are based on the Bootleg listings, no Bootlegs can be bought here. So If u say guide2prince only lists Bootlegs, so does the PaisleyParkVault.Com!. The fact is Prince wants to shut down the Bootleg labels and he has to start somewhere.

...But the other two, what exactly did they do wrong??

They had a Prince-related website.confused

No wonder prince.org only posts links to news, and opinion. Just about anything else seems to warrant a letter of cease to exist by P's lawyer. rolleyes

Sad indeed. sad

At the very least - you would think Prince would therefore have a ROCKIN website to make-up for all the sites he has murdered.

sigh

Style.. (old school hi-5) Listen to this.

We all know of an interesting repeat business strategy that worked for Prince once and I strongly suspect that he's about to do it again. Follow me please 4 a moment if u will. pc

Why did Prince start threatening websites back in 1999? One of the tactically ingenious reasons he did it was (this is just my opinion as a legal strategist myself) to take alot of the heat off of his business that he was having with the bad-press about non-delivery, bad customer service, and credit investigations.. and "by gum mildred" it worked! Covering up damaging bad-press with even worse yet non-damaging bad press is an old political trick that I think first started in the Kennedy/Nixon days. nana

Deeper into the business. confuse

Now since the financial year just started in October and he already collected off of memberships prior to this.. he's probably now going to conclude (and file a loss this year) and ship a costly set-form product. This made me guess that most NPGMC members weren't really going to see him tour europe or get the bulk of the CDs shipped until after mid-October. A costly small venue world tour without any major commercial promotion or record label picking up the tab won't be going that far beyond all the expenses. So what to expect? This is what worries me. That we're starting to see the beginning of another round of legal threats at the same that people are getting angry, impatient and not satisfied with the service of a premium $100 investment. And perhaps (sadly after all this waiting) the 3-set is it for the year. Or if he's going to file a huge loss this year.. maybe not! razz

Stay tuned!

The answer to almost every unanswered question is "$"

Never herd of the first two mentioned in this thread.

But, with the exception of Princefan.net the other two sites are the same as they always were.

As far as I know Prince has always had a problem with g2p, dunno about ppv though.

And I have a feeling Princefan.net got into hot water for a certain set called "Testament" or something like that.

The webmaster of princefan.net had nothing to do with the set nor was it the reason he got contacted.

Thank You JC, correct. I didn't make "Testament", someone else did, who indeed was selling the set through Paypal and had a website setup devoted strickly to the set, and if people go back and search the archives of AMP, the person even posted and responded there, upset because people were trading the set.

Only thing I've done in the past that may have had my "nickname" or "site" attached to it was when I had a Fan ask me to create some artwork for an item, or I got something in trade that didn't have any artwork and I "donated" my time and energy into doing so. I've done this for several people, and yes I've been provided with complimentary copies of these items at times for my work, but nothing was asked or monies exchanged. It was something I did out of pleasure.

Now this is curious, why would you assume that I got into hot water over this "Testament" set? All I did for that set, after I got the original in a trade, was create some new covers for it, and I sent them to the person I got the set from, as well as being nice enough to send them to the person who made and was selling the set. I also altered some of their original html images, and gave them out to a few people, which in turn I know stuff has been posted to the binaries news groups, which I haven't had any access to in months, nor have I even posted things there in ages besides an occassional post for Liberation when asked.

There was NOWHERE on my site where you could PURCHASE anything, and I even had a disclaimer on my site, advising I DID NOT SELL items, and DID NOT KNOW where to purchase them from.

I like any other Collector/Trader had a very small section dedicated to "Trade/Wanted" items which was one of the things my Domain Host was contacted about, and I promptly removed the section. I'm not, nor have I ever been a "Bootlegger" or "Dealer" of these items. I haven't done anymore than the casual fan, collector and trader to build my collection.

And as far as selling any items, I've only sold items in my collection that I no longer wanted or needed, it wasn't like I was advertising anything for sale or selling multiple copies, it was only parts of my collection I had paid for. Me selling a piece of my collection is no different that going on eBay or Yahoo selling bootlegs or pirated sets, which there are several people who I know that do this frequently, including official releases that I've seen sold many times, but these items being the things they should worry about most, seem to get ignored.

But then again, as it was said in previous threads, it's easier to go after small fish than the big sharks. Especially when I don't know of any Bootleggers in the US, seems everything I hear about comes out of Europe, and that seems to be the location of most of these internet "sellers" on these auction sites. Simple to find them, scan the auction sites, check feedback on previous sales on what items have been sold. Just type in "Prince" or any number of titles of these bootlegs, and somethings bound to pop up.

...that is only if you plan on putting out the stuff yourself! If you plan to NEVER release what appears on bootlegs, then what are you wasting the energy for?

Because there were posts some months back on amp that seemed to point to your site as the place to get info on the set (whether you were selling it or not was not really the point).

As for the rest of your post. If you say so, ok. I really don't know since I'd only been to your site a few times.

wait... wouldn't that HAVE to be the point if you were theorizing that that set is the reason his site got shut down?

No. This person didn't necessarily have to make a dime off the set. He/she providing info (who/what/where) to get the set may have been enough for the PP boot squad to contact him/her. Again, as I said above -- "there were posts some months back on amp that seemed to point to your site as the place to get info".

True, the person who was selling the set had emailed quit alot of people with the url to their site, and telling them if they knew of anyone interested in the set to contact him. Well one of the people who got the set from him, gave me a copy, and like G2P & PPV, I list things in circulation, as well as items I had. So I just took what they had on their site as "info" and altered it's appearance and placed the "info" on my site. Since people went to my site, of course I got spotlighted when people started posting to AMP inquiring about the set. Then there were several people on AMP who posted they'd hook them up with the maker of the set, not I.
