Comfort kills creativity. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I do miss them side projects He was slightly "underground" in the mid 90's. That is the closest to a cult star as he ever got. I loved it--Paisley Park every weekend. Ah the good ol' days. Oh well, he's back in the lime light and I am happy 4 him. "New Power slide...."

I'll admit, even though I didn't like his output during that time, there was something cool about him being such a rebel against the media during that post-Rave-TRC/NEWS era. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I think most of what came out between 94 - 2003 was some of this best and challenging stuff. He was also humbled by the fans that stuck around. Now it's all about hanging with celebrities and putting out material aimed at the masses. Still rocks the house live though. Christian Zombie Vampires

Oooh good era! Not just because of his sexiness around then..but for his passion for the things that were improtant to him like his religion, speaking out on artists rights, anti warners...he would have been cool to kick it with! Interesting guy to speak with!

4 those who asked, & as others have said too, he was an "underground artist" between 1995 & 2003: most people didn't hear about the music he released then. Of course he was waaaaay less underground than a lot of other artists, but he was definitly outta the mainstream.
I'm glad 2 c i ain't the only one missing these years & yes, it was a fascinating era. I hope (& guess) he'll come back 2 this soon, which might b the case if (as he said in a recent interview) his next album is a symphony. I remember that there were rumors about negociations with Blue Note a few years back, too. This too would b cool & he definitly sounded like an underground band during the 94-95 concerts
