He promises to love in return if the girl in question can match his love, I just think the lyrics are great and they way he sings them always makes my heart fly! So basically, I find this to be Prince at his most romantic, not maybe in an obvious way (like when you listen to Adore, you know its gonna be romantic because of tempo etc, but in this song its the lyrics that makes you realise) but still...
