It would be a terrible shame if Prince decided that the vault dies with him but I do agree with Anxiety that he will probably do a Stevie Wonder and ban any posthumous releases. Isn't it also the case that the vault tapes have already started to rot away anyway? I hope not!
Prince's legacy is assured whatever happens but I would love to hear the cream of his unreleased stuff. It's not that I think everything in the vault is awesome a lot of the outtakes are sketches; works in progress. It doesn't stop them being fascinating though. It would be fantastic if the approach taken to Prince's work was similar to how Miles Davis's and Jimi Hendrix's back catalogues have been treated. A Dream Factory box set anyone? if you've gotta pay for things that you've done wrong I've gotta big bill coming at the end of the day- Gil Scott Heron

Chaka Khan who was inside Prince's vault says: It contains enough music.. that if he released an album every two weeks there would be enough music to last him 10 years..... WOW!
In a 1999 MTV interview with Kurt Loder when asked about his vault: Quoted below: Loder: If we went in your vaults -- I bet they're substantial -- what would we find in there? The Artist: Some amazing jazz work. You'd find the best, most heady tracks that The Revolution recorded; the ones that we thought were too far gone back in the '80s. You'd find the more psychedelic rock version of The Time. You'd find the really erotic Prince. Loder: Really? The Artist: The really erotic central Prince. You'd find the future. Loder: What's going to happen to all this stuff? I mean, I'm glad it's in a vault somewhere... will it ever come out? The Artist: Oh, yeah. I'll give it away. You know, I'm not goin' nowhere. I'll be right here.

I'm sure some unreleased material is out and around and not in circulation.
It takes the right money man to put a price tag ($1000+) on unreleased songs and greed will sink into the people sitting on the material and then it will leak.

i agree with anxiety. he wants to much control over his music to let it flounder in his absence. although, it will be interestng to see who inherits his catalogue and rights. if he is not married at the time of his death nor has a will in place stating what happens to his catalogue and copyrights, they will most likely go to his siblings.

Didn't some material get left in the vault of his old shop in Camden in London. I remember that there was this big thing about sinking a huge concrete time box or vault or something in the basement/foundations of the shop... Anyone know more about this? I wonder what's in it... I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off
