Will u b boycotting Prince after all the adverse pubicity? I'm of the opinion that everything that 1st got me interested in Prince, and kept me interested all these years, as an artist, has dwindled and eroded steadily over time. Primarily his subject matter.
Plus the guy is a walking contradiction whose main motivation now seems 2 b greed. I might stop supporting him financially as a result, 4 what it's worth.

I don't think I could ever boycott Prince. I've spent too much on him already!
But seriously, a little bad publicity doesn't bother me. I've been a Michael Jackson fan 12 years and counting and have encountered all types of bad publicity over him, daily. So a little tiff between Prince and some websites is just another day at the office for me. I like that Prince is a little moody and quirky. If he was normal, I probably wouldn't like him. I like people with quirks and who are offbeat--or like Prince, make thier own beat. I just stay patient and things usually work themselves out. I love a Man who:
Wears More Make Up Than Me. Wears Four Inch Stilleto Boots. Changes His Name To An Unpronouncable Symbol. Who Changes His Name Back From An Unpronouncable Symbol. Oh And Most Importantly, Who Is Sexy Little Drop Of Butterscotch

He might have 2 stick with cuttin deals with tabloids, and product placement in his lyrics and videos.
Oh, and touring while he still can.

No. He makes good music. That is what it is all about in the end.
I may not like some of what he does, but he has every right, and some of it is so trifling, like the avatar situation, I can easily not care.

I "boycotted" prince during the Crystal Ball era...not really because I disagreed with anything, but because it just became a hassle to get the music...but part of that was also me...I just wanted to be able to go to the store and buy the CD...
...anyways, as another orger said, be patient, things usually work out...and they have...I think he's made some positive contributions to the way music is distributed...he's learned what works and what doesn't and he, as always, is willing to try new things... ...and all that stuff I didn't buy during the "boycott"...I eventually bought years later...some of it within the last couple of months...I just want to get the music without a hassle...and he's made that possible...so all this other stuff, I'll ride it out...maybe even agree or disagree with what he's doing...but boycott...no way...actually, I think it's fantastic being a Prince fan right now...that being said: Prince! Please put out a DVD of the entire Septimo show....pleeeeease!!!!!

Tall Poppy...
ARE YOU A LEGEND IN YOUR OWN MIND? By MadamSplash An article about Self Importance and Tall Poppy Syndrome. I first came face to face with Tall Poppy Syndrome when promoting my programs some years ago. Any marketer will tell you ... make your product enticing, needed and Bigger than Ben Hurr. Over the years I have worked on the launch of literally thousands of products, services and other people, where these power marketing principals were hugely successful. This time however, the product was "myself", which I have to admit, I found much more difficult. I am not alone, as most people find it quite challenging to promote themselves. The reason we find self promotion more confronting, is because, the majority of normal human beings are affected by the same deep seated "feelings" of inferiority around fame. Why? Well because most of us had it drummed into our heads, from early childhood, that a display of self promotion was, well ... just not good manners. It was considered that we were showing off, being egotistical, bragging, being a know-all, or sounding dogmatic and were then "tossed off" by the group, until the behavior was modified. We soon learned that if we wanted to get along, we would have to go along (a paramount need of children) and that any display of individuality or leadership was going to be met with rejection in the form of a rebuff, scoffing, ridicule or withdrawal. We did eventually grow up, but instead of this dynamic moving along with our childhood, it lingered on in our lives to become what is now colloquially named "Tall Poppy Syndrome". Tall Poppy is a deploringly distrustful force that (not unsimilar to a dangling meat cleaver), is poised ready to chop down any identity that may get "too big for their boots". Tall Poppy Syndrome Leadership and Lengend behaviour. Inspiration Motivation.Tall Poppy shows up in our community via the media, on the radio or television, in our clubs, throughout the work place and even within our families. In fact ... anybody who attempts to stand out or be different, will attract an element of Tall Poppy, whether they want it, or not! Taking on a Leadership role means moving beyond the Tall Poppy issue, and insulating ourselves from the potential influences of those who will invariably wish to bring us down. It is a well known Leadership phenomenon, that humans tend to fall back into a child-parent role-play scenario within groups. Particularly in the case of a "Committee" or "Board", if not monitored, a kind of "them and us" thing can develop. Just like children testing the boundaries of their parents, the group can unconsciously band together to "bring down" the leadership ... it's nothing personal, that's just Tall Poppy Syndrome in action. So .. just who do you think you are anyway? We must briefly mention our champions of Tall Poppy Syndrome - I was introduced to Miss. X. You must know somebody like Miss X ... Leader of the Opposition ... Tall Poppy Syndrome on legs ... you recognize them for their need to "expose" your inefficiencies by competing with your knowledge and tweaking your inner most fears with an alarming display of competition. The loaded question indignantly came... "So, just who do you think you are anyway?" It was exactly at that point that I was so thankful that I had spent all those years aspiring to conscious relationships. I realized in that instant that I no longer believed that I was anybody in particular at all ... I was free ... and just "me" doing the best I could to inspire other humans towards the same internal freedom. As a result I came through the inquisition intact, whereas in years gone by, my ego may not have survived. It is so easy to fall into the dominating clasps of our own belief system to degenerate into the ugly airs of superiority. Many leaders unintentionally fall into the self importance trap ... illusion becomes delusion and what now exists is a "Legend-In-Their-Own-Mind". They have lost sight of the fact that we are all on one level, hierarchy is a mere fantasy and nobody is better than another. Legend behaviour is a honey pot to the bees of Tall Poppy Syndrome Inspiration Motivation Leadership is merely a role being played out by the courageous and that always deserves respect. So ask yourself this question truthfully .. are you a Legend In Your Own Mind? ... or do you walk through life with a drain pipe full of TPS stuck up your nose? Cryptic? Well ~ Think about it! PS I feel it is mandatory that all Leaders watch "The Life of Bryan" at least once in their life... http://www.splash.net.au/...egend.html

I have no need to boycott Prince, he has done okay by me. When our personal lives are in order, we have no need to look toward others for our happiness or sense of well being. Given the scale of things he has to work with (being World Wide and all), I think he's done a great job keeping it real.
I look forward to hearing the next tune he decides to lay on us, whenever that may be, and for whatever the reason is behind all the law suits and image control, I'll respect his wishes. Maybe we would feel the same if we were in his pumps. Remembering how personal and private a person he is, I think he has shared a great deal of himself already with the world. If he quit and stopped making music altogether today, I'd be grateful for all he has already been to me in my world. God Bless You Prince - Do Your Thing. You don't owe me a thing.

Hang on a minute... wasn't it Christos7 who was defending Prince's actions in the announcement thread?!...
And I quote... christos7 "Xactly. What draws people 2 the site and makes the advertising effective (theoretically)? The content. Prince is well within his rights 2 do this. He has and always will set trends rather than follow them. Who's 2 say Prince wont at some stage make these videos (and many others) available 2 his fans? Whatever he wants make available. It's just that whilst sites like this continue 2 profiteer & xploit what is ultimately his work and livelihood, Prince and many other artists (with @ least half a brain) will b discouraged from making them readily available, bcause in effect, that's just handing over their hard work 2 these vultures on a silver platter. Prince has never asked his fans 2 take over the promotional/exposure side of his business, many just feel compelled 2 do so 4 some reason. Leave the man 2 his own devices, and just b happy and thankful 4 whatever it is ur 4tuneate enough 2 have access 2. Prince's vast body of legitimate releases should b more than enough 2 keep 1 satisfied. Peace & B Wild" I'm not stopping. I haven't even taken my coat off
