Prince Owning His Master Tapes

Does anyone know the music industry arrangements regarding a musician having ownership of such? Frankie Valli of the Four Seasons, a 60's group control ALL their stuff:
"The Four Seasons have undergone numerous personnel changes over the years but the essence of the group has remained with lead vocalist Frankie Valli and songwriter/manager Bob Gaudio. Valli and Gaudio own the master tapes of all the group's recordings, the right to use the musical group name "The Four Seasons," and also own the rights to the music and lyrics of all the Four Seasons" songs. These properties have generated millions of dollars in revenue for Valli and Gaudio's joint enterprise, called the Four Seasons Partnership."

The current Broadway play, they're making mega bucks....

It's down to what you decide to do with your rights and the contractual agreements into which you enter.

See the Forum FAQ - section 4.8 - for links to explain the background

Their names end with a vowel so I'll let you figure that out.

It's probably better that Prince doesn't own his masters. He would probably do some JW meets Ted Turner stuff and ruin the rest of his legacy forever. The you tube/internet lawsuit thing is ridiculous.(I respect copyright laws but it's too big for him to fight. Maybe he should call Bono and Madonna.)

There is a site out of Asia where you can still see everything.
