Sounds like a very special aftershow, if not THE most special aftershow of his entire career ( judging by the length, featured artists and tracklist).

I think it´s extremely cool of Prince to give her such an opportunity, and who knows, maybe this will make her rethink some of her choices in life and make her realize her true talent. Something so amazing like this has the potential to trigger something very positive, and people should give props for Prince for looking beyond her tumultuous private life.....sharing the stage with one of your musical heroes might even be better than rehab. Too bad people are so cold and make fun of a person that could cross the line any day. Once she´s gone, it´s gonna be too late and people will regret the shit they said.

I really wish for her to get herself together and become healthy again...and maybe get rid of that loser husband she has.

My powers of expression fail me after occasions like Saturday night. disbelief It really was a mind blowing evening - magical!

My personal fam-out moment giggle was when he played this brain-splitting guitar solo and I was beaming with mirth. Prince looked at me and smiled back. It was just the most bizarre thing, but it made my night!

I really, really hope both the main show AND the Aftershow are released in some form one day. He gave us a fantastic send-off.

OK AMY WINEHOUSE IS FREAKING AMAZING! WHO WOULD HAVE PREDICTED THAT THE BEST R&B AND SOUL MUSIC OF THE NEW MILLENIUM WOULD BE SUNG BY A BRITISH JEW!!! I MEAN SHE IS KICKING THE REGULAR POPULAR RADIO SONGTRESSES ASSES~! SHE HAS THAT PAIN IN HER VOICE THAT MANY OF THE GREAT SOUL SINGERS HAVE AND SHE IS PROBABLY LIKE PRINCE ONE OF OUR LAST GREAT ROCKSTARS/ARTIST OUT HERE. EVERYONE ELSE IS JUMPIN ON THE BAND WAGGIN OF SELLING CLOTHES AND CALOGNE AND OPENING RESTARAUNTS AND THIS CHICK IS JUST OUT HERE BEING HERSELF AND SHE JUST SO HAPPENS TO BE TALENTED AS ALLS HELL! AND PRINCE RECOGNIZES THAT, BECAUSE REAL RECOGNIZES REAL, AND HE CAN'T DENY HER BRILLIANCE! SO I DON'T THINK ALL THE OTHER JUDGEMENTS ABOUT HER PERSONNEL LIFE REALLY REFLECTS HER GIFT NOR IS IT NECESSARY. SOME OF THE MOST ECCENTRIC GIFTED PEOPLE IN HISTORY WERE TORTURED ONE WAY OR THE OTHER. SHE SINGS ABOUT IT, SHE'S HONEST, AND U JUST DON'T GET THAT IN TODAY'S MUSIC, SAD TO SAY, BUT SHES MORE BRILLIANT THAN SHE REALIZES AND JUST HOPE SHE CONTINUES TO PUT OUT SOME BOMB ASS JAMS, AND EVOLVE AS AN ARTIST AND AS A PERSON, WATCH OUT FOR HER, SHES HUGE!

I wish I had seen this... I completely understand Prince's obsession with Winehouse and her song "Love is a Losing Game", it's such a dramatic melody/chords/bass line. It sounds like a James bond song done in an understated way. And she wrote it.

People just don't know. Her recent reappearance at an awards show where she performed this song almost shyly and incredibly was exactly like the scene in Purple Rain where he sings Purple Rain... but with Winehouse and the shit she is going through... it is real. I completely understand why she is a big thing, even for Prince. He said "Take care of her, she is special" to his last aftershow audience in London.

I agree with all of that. 'Love is a Losing Game' is definitely leaning on John Barry (composer of most of the James Bond theme tunes until Living Daylights). The arrangement on her album never really allows the track to soar, which it does on the NPG version, which makes it sound even more like John Barry. Along with Lisa Stansfield's All the Right Places (which actually is a John Barry number), it's a great Bond theme in the grand tradition that never was.

The performance with Prince at the aftershow was the highlight of the entire 21 nights for me. Stunning stuff.

Jeff was drunk when he drowned.

To all the Amy Winehouse haters... Have you listened to her sing?! Or do you all diss her because of her demons?
On the same premise... Do y'all hate:
Charlie Parker
Billie Holiday
Jimi Hendrix
John Coltrane
I don't really need to go on do I?
The list is endless... and people you love to listen to / watch / read no doubt.
You shouldn't blieve all you read in the rags.

I was there on friday night and she was great. Also saw her at Glastonbury and she blew the place apart... (Although I have to admitt she was a little tipsy!)

This girl has a problem... Do you really think she wants to be cutting herself and blocking shit out with drink and drugs?
It's a disease... She is ill. I for one hopes she beats her demons and comes out the other side.
She is an amazing talent and needs our (UK) support.

I don't think that Prince would have had her on stage if she was a mess on the night would he?

Plus... I kinda have a little thing for her... But that's something different!

She's overrated and has all the vocal tone of a braying sheep. You're obviously buying into the "tortured soul" bullshit. It's a shame that Prince is too.

Miguel, it was WONDERFUL!! love

The curtains were still drawn when the band started, so it started off sounding like part of the soundcheck, almost. Then this rich, luxurious groove kept building and building, with these weird little keyboard motifs... it was beautiful. Then the curtains open and Amy Winehouse appears. Incredible moment. At the end of the song, Prince gave her a hug, walked off and put his shades on, saying he was starting to get tears in his eyes. Awwwww. giggle Very, very moving and the most amazing music.... cloud9

Very well said. I commend Prince for reaching out to Amy. It says a lot about Prince and the utmost respect Amy has for him. She put on her best behavior and performed well...that says a lot for her especially in lieu of what she's been through and prehaps still going through. I wish the best for Amy.

If he wants to support crazy near cracked out performers and give some tears Ms. Lauryn Hill has more talent in her pinky...if she ever performed like a sane person these days neutral

then again Prince supporting a female artist usually doesn't mean anything but prolly signals her future path to obscurity knowing his track record lol
I do love Amy's album and voice though but I mean I think it's overhyped...not hating...just saying it's overhyped

I didn't say anything about "supporting", it's mearly a spotlight for a show or two. I was suggesting that perhapse the reason for the spotlight is more for her benefit then the audience. Prince is no doubt very much aware of her self destructive nature and incredible talent, and by putting her on stage in front of HIS fans she WILL feel the love and feel encouraged...and if this really is the case then it's a compliment to his fans as he trusted them to make her feel welcome. It would be a shame for a great talent to go to waste!

U're so right. I feel that is exactly why Prince allowed her to perform.
