Funk Prince Albums

What albums of Prince's (out of the great many), are more funk related? I'm probably going to be getting Batman soon, and I really like "Trust", because of the funkyness of it, so what other Prince albums feature a lot of songs like that?

PS: What album has "The Ladder" on it??
Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

haha...
I don't think I'd know funk if it bit me.

It's a roughly new genre for me personally.
I'll leave the ? to the veterans/old-school people.

I wouldn't characterize any of Prince's albums as funk albums, really. He mixes too many musical styles to call them one thing or another.

BUT...if you are willing to characterize, say, an album by The Time as a Prince album (especially since he recorded most of them himself), you could definitely say their self-titled first album is a great Prince funk album.

This is a great answer.

Prince used side projects to be more normal, more definable.

And "funk" is an impossible word to define, as some even use as a synonym for "good".

But if you feel the funkiness of "Trust", it would seem very possible that you'll probably understand this guy's extremely weird mix of mayhem that usually avoids all easy labels.

I could list some very funky songs, but with "Trust" as my only guide, I'm not sure I'm locked into exactly what might work for you.

I think most of his songs have a strong Funk influence, but right now I am thinking of his song with George Clinton "We can play funky music" and another one "(I like) Funky Music.

Of those, I'd concur with The Black Album.

Dirty Mind has its funky moments, but it also has straight rock-n-roll (When You Were Mine), New Wave (Sister), and amalgams of New Wave/funk (Dirty Mind, Uptown and Partyup).

Same for Controversy and 1999.

Most of his earlier albums have a couple of funk tracks on them. Other than that, check out the stuff he did with 'The Time'.
It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

There are definitely new-wave elements to all of those albums, but they are all also classified as funk albums as well, and masterpieces at that.

The Black Album is the most un-cut & raw, probably why it's about my favorite album he ever made though not technically the "best."
