Pick ur worst Prince instrumental project

Kamasutra
N.E.W.S.
Xpectation

For me, it is Kamasutra. It was boring as hell. I love Xpectation and semi-enjoyed N.E.W.S.. What r ur thoughts?

I guess NEWS is pretty poorly received around here. News, to me, is apart of Prince' musical comeback (after the shallows of Rave and High).

Expectation is nothingness, mindless fodder going nowhere.

Kamasutra is that deep crevasse you roll into after you hit rock bottom.

You might want to enlarge the selection with:

-Madhouse 8
-Madhouse 16
-Madhouse 24
-C-Note (mostly instrumental right?)

Just for fun... wink

I hate to be a total prick, but if you think that God (instrumental) is Prince's worst instrumental project, than I have to question your taste in music.

I believe that this may be one of the greatest instrumental pieces of music of all time.

Not because of technical musicianship or anything, but simply for the beauty and emotion of the music itself.

N.E.W.S., or SNOOZE as it should be called.

What a pointless album. It's like Prince decided to suddenly record a bunch of warm-up jams with his band. There are almost no melodies here; just little brief interesting patches here and there. It never fully develops into anything memorable.

At least Xpectation has some melodies, and at least Kamasutra is bad in a funny way at times.

N.E.W.S. is just boring. Very boring. The most boring thing Prince has ever done.

I'm usually on your side about 99% of the time, but I'm gonna disagree with you about N.E.W.S. It took me a while to warm up to N.E.W.S. but I find it a quite interesting album simply because it is just that. 15 minute jams sessions with no particular structure, melody, or meaning for that matter.

But, the way they go from one genre to another and back again displays Prince's appreciation for all forms of music. I also like to play this for non-Prince fans who know little about him, and think of him as crazy little pop musician who happened to write a few decent little pop songs. I always ask them to guess who they are listening to, and they are always genuinely surprised when I tell 'em it's Prince.

I like the instrumental, but OMFG the vocal version of God is probably some of his worst work until that time. Silly, preachy and the sort of thing that you don't play for people that you need to convince how great Prince is.

Nah.. don't blame Prince if you can't appreciate greatness. "God" is a work of genious and one of his all-time classics. It's vocal style is consistent with "International Lover", "The Beautiful Ones", "Horny Toad" etc. The thing with Prince is that he was not trying to make every track the classic 3 minute pop tune. I remember the song getting a lot of airplay back in the Purple Rain days.

Kamasutra. Nothing else comes close.

Kamasutra, hands down.

All the others are great.

Kamasutra has some interesting moments, but as a whole it just doesn't work for me. It just sounds unfinished to me. He would have been better doing it either completely 'midi' or completely with a full orchestra. The combination of the two make it sound cheap IMO.

Me 2. When I first heard the song, I thought it was kind of cool, then it got spooky. Who else uses scissors as a percussion instrument.

Definitely one of the more retarded choices he ever made with his music.
