Mellow-Non-Appreciation Thread I do think the whole of the Rainbow Children is a late highlight of Prince's career, but Mellow is not, beyond dull. Was the definate lowlight when I saw him perform it live. Sure Jughead and Wedding Feast are silly, maybe not great songs, but at least interesting. I like it. After so much painful, draining dogma on the album, it's nice to hear Prince be so sexy again. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

It's OK. I mean it's decent and listenable. I've heard worse from Prince such as the entire "The Truth" album. Andy is a four letter word. | |

Hell fucking yes! "Mellow" is the VERY worst Prince song ever, in my opinion. The bland neo-soul, the desperate attempt to seem "cool" with the name-dropping, and the sheer lack of cohesion it creates on The Rainbow Children are truly awful! I gotta defend this song, it's nice.
I prefer the album version to the live recording. I agree with wlcm2thdwn, you kinda have to be in the right frame of mind to really enjoy it.  |
