Yes,,
UTCM is WAY under-rated. Its a great movie,, and Im glad Prince fired the Director early on into the production of it. For someone thats never Directed a Movie Before,, Prince did an AWSOME Job!

I personally think it is his most watchable and entertaining film, and quite good on its own merits.

Plus it's basically Prince being a gigolo. Whats not to love.

Considering I first saw this movie in the 80's, it's a trip to watch it now...

I was thinking initially, as I was watching, "man, this is fucking corny".

But, as the movie has progressed, it is apparent what he was going for... kinda like the buddy films of the old days... Abbott & Costello, Martin & Lewis, Hope & Crosby... etc.

Then, add a little sex and gigilos, it's actually quite entertaining!

nod

Terrible acting on Prince's part. I mean, just the death scene at the end was horrific and just plain BAD.

Kristin Scott-Thomas is great though.

I KNOW eek

I was like, "the ending of the movie didn't make me cry. If anything, I should have cried over his bad acting. Cuz Prince, that is not how you're supposed 2 die."

sigh It wouldn't have come 2 that if they wrote a better ending. It's so anti-climatic.

Love the movie, though. There are SO many good lines that I like to recite them a lot. I'm dying 2 just use them in conversation 2 if anyone gets it.

It was vaguely fitting though since he got shot with an invisible bullet and had invisible blood!

But I didn't really see a bullet "wound". I mean, c'mon!
Other than that ending, the rest of the movie was a lot of fun. So fun in fact that when I got back to "Purple Rain," I couldn't even recognize him cuz I got so used 2 the fun loving Christopher Tracy... who is really the persona of Prince's onstage self.

Everything else was so goofy and bad (in a good way) there was no other way for him to die. Seriously though, I think Mary should have died if anybody. Kristin would've made it more believable. Then the parents and Christopher would've learned their lessons and hopefully would've gone on to be better people. Of course, in Prince's mind Christopher Tracy was the center of everything-- surprise, surprise smile -- so he had to be the one who died.

As it was, Prince looked like Bugs Bunny in his death scene. smile

There's one thing that's really strange about this movie and that is how many people will discover it some late night on TV and convert themselves to liking Prince with it. Happened with at least six people I know over the years! They hadn't the time of day for Prince or his music, then saw this, bought Parade and went from there. One of them has gone to ALL the shows at the O2 but used to be a total prince debunker.

Another two friends watched it with me the first time I found it at a rental store long after it was out (if it ever was out) in the cinema. They were buoyed along by my enthusiasm for checking it out but at the end we were all agreed it was a really fine movie and every one of us got really into 'Mountains' the song for ages after that.

Of course, it's a groovy movie but I'd honestly have thought that it would put people off him as it's ego from the off (those piano-preening eyes).
Strange that it seems to do the opposite.

Under The Cherry Moon is a great, fun movie.

It didn't set out to win awards or become an all-time classic. It's a movie that is visually beautiful, tells a fun tale, and ultimately creates a wonderful pantomime scenario where you can boo the bad guys and cheer on the good guys.

I think people initially expected too much of this movie and waaaay too many people take it too seriously.

And it's a camp as tits too, which is no bad thing.
