I've turned full circle on this argument. Prince is asking for all copyright material to be deleted, which by law is a fair request. What is being confused (as i did) is the demand for this material to be made available. Nobody can claim to know the reason for the lack of old video meterial, but at the end of the day this would be a privalige not a right.
At the end of the day all that is being removed is a few photos and some dodgy videos. This shouldnt really effect your overall perception of the man. Who knows once this material is removed, he might actually release official tour videos (if there are any). I need Prince tunes on the Rock Band game! PLEEEEEEASE, im prepared to beg.

excessex said: I authored the 23rd website...like EVER.
(Yes...there once was a directory of websites that was a short page of HTML) YouTube is nothing to do with sharing. They are sharing nothing because they HAVE nothing to share. YouTube is about creating stock market value from the offerings of others. Your post reflects your DESIRE and I back that desire. YouTube (I'm singling them out it would seem but only because they're top) is the capitalisation of that desire. They want to play it both ways. They act communistically in liberating copyrights yet coin it at the bank balance. This is so clever as to leave others going 'Duh. What can we do?' But Prince isn't an ostrich and he's one of six m3taverse said: Like Prince, you really seem to be lacking any type of clue of what the Internet is about and how it has changed our lives. Youtube has nothing whatsoever to do with money or consumption. It has to do with people living part of their lives on a global digital network, and what people like to do in real life, they like to do on this global network as well. This includes sharing things you care about, that amuse you or make you cry. Whereas my parents used to send postcards to people they care about, from locations they care about, now they just uploads their pics to Flickr, publish their vids on YouTube and pop everyone an email with the links. Back in the day, when I heard a piece of music that blew my mind, I wanted to share that experience and gave friends a tape. Now I drop an mp3 into MSN Messenger. It's only to those who fail to understand the greater mechanism at work that think they can somehow shape the way we behave and communicate. For an artist to take such a position is sad to say the least. Art is organic, it does not exist without a community that develops around it and that make it their own. All classic works of art trancend their creator, or they are simply not classic and perhaps not even art. Art is public property, people make it their own, or it is not art and irrelevant. I made the 17th website ever, fact. It was called ... ok nevermind what it was called, I'm not on a first name basis with 99% of people here and let's keep it that way. First of all, sites like Youtube and Flickr aren't very profitable at all, if at all. Their "worth" is established on the potential of their communities, not on their actual income. As someone who made the 20th website, my expectation is that you would know such things. You seem to be confusing the medium with the message, Youtube is completely interchangable within the context of the communication revolution that has taken place. Youtube is the medium, the message is about sharing experiences, on a global scale. You can sue the hell out of that site, but the cat will not get back in the bag. Besides, Flickr and Youtube offer their services completely free of charge to its global base of users. Your line of thought seems to be that because they are succesful, because people have created the largest communities we have ever seen in the history of the world, that somehow automatically makes them an evil corporation. Are you just jealous or do you simply dispise people making money. Your anti corporate rant is tired in any case, and i suspect disingenuous at the same time. This is about nothing more than Prince trying to get further into his JW beliefs! Prince, why don't you take all your music, videos, pictures off the internet and out of the stores alltogether. Why don't you start suing all the fan-sites like prince.org for posting your pictures, and why don't you stop doing concerts alltogether? That way it will be exclusively your music and nobody else would have access to it and nobody would use your music or material in a way that you wouldn't approve of. That way you would have total control over your music.
A few questions remain: Why didn't you stay in your friend's basement with your music? Why did you sign a contract with the evil Warner Brothers to begin with. Nobody knew you or your music back then. Nobody paid to listen to your music before Warner Brothers. You could have remained one broke, unknown, nobody and your musical talent would have gone unnoticed. love the one who is Love!

Because then this is going to turn into a debate on the internet and that's certainly part of this discussion, but will get us WAY off track. Guys like Tom invent something cool and it takes off like a rocket and becomes part of our everyday lives and THEN someone like Rupert Murdoch comes along and buys it and figures out a way to make some money off of it (AGAIN, mostly from advertising and setting up promotions with record labels, movie companies, etc). Most of which has NOTHING to do with FANS wanting to post music/videos on THEIR PERSONAL PAGES and NOT FOR PROFIT. I'll keep screaming this until i'm blue in the face, PEOPLE ON YOUTUBE AND MYSPACE AREN'T BOOTLEGGERS LOOKING TO MAKE A BUCK, THEY'RE FANS!!!!! THE PEOPLE WHO MADE YOU RICH IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!! 1. Prince likes to make a lotta stuff
No kidding. 2. In the WB bag, he made a lotta stuff which has remained unreleased because, as when WB had him, they still don't consider it worth releasing. This covers the past
Uh huh. Waiting for you to get to the good part(part we don't know). 3. Since WB, Prince has released a lotta stuff when he's in the mood
Yeah. A few bad albums and some vault stuff that he sold on NPGMC. Sure. And..... 4. Prince wants his masters back from WB
Again, I feel the need to say "duh". But he doesn't get a lot of sympathy from me on that one. He could've have had his masters back if he wasn't a dick about it and tried to go to war. Ultimately, he screwed himself on that one. Again that's another topic. Still waiting on where you get to the topic at hand. 5. Prince's market-value dropped right off the scale in the period since WB. This was entirely at Prince's discretion.
WHAT? His discretion? He CHOSE to drop his market value? So that's why he's been trying to manipulate Soundscan for the last few years to make it seem like he's selling more albums than he actually is. Gotcha. 6. A deal may have been done based upon the lower market-value. Go figure
Huh? A deal for what? You lost me. What are you talking about here? 7. We are waiting. And I, for one, am LICKING MY MF LIPS
Waiting for what? I guess you're waiting for the day when Prince opens up the vault and decides to sell everything. Sure we're all waiting for that day, and you know what? It ain't going to happen. New Jehovah's Witness Prince isn't going to open up the vault and let you have access to old bad ass heathen sexual Prince. Again, to re-state my original point.
