Future Baby Mama - Not Good?

The reason I'm askin this is because apart from here I've hardly read any positive comments about Future Baby Mama. Most album reviews don't even mention the song. I personally think of it as an excellent love song and one of the best( note not THE best) slow jams he's done for years. So why is it that this song gets ignored like that? And Prince doesn't even play it in London.

a minor modern classic

i LOVE this song-its the best on the album and the best r n b ballad out for ages.period

its like a stylistics/delfonics hybrid jumped in the TARDIS and jammed with a funky chameleon 40 years in the future.

DANG! give this song some love

I love this song and so does Black AC radio here in Chicago. Both of the Black AC stations here have been playing it since it came out. It's in the top 10 on Randy Jackson's nationally syndicated weekly R&B countdown - and that's not just AC. So it's getting love, it might just depend on the demo for the reviews that you have read.

I am surprised that there is no video for this one, because it really seems to be hot in the Black AC market.

I like that it has a warm feel, and it's catchy, but it's also kind of simplistic. Definitely nowhere near classic status.

It really is nice to hear new P on the radio here. Oddly, they didn't play anything from 3121 much, but "Call My Name" became and staple. FBM seems to be going the same route. I hear it several times a day on the Black AC stations. I think that a video for this one would be a great promo move. Too bad it doesn't look like it will happen.

eek Future Baby Mama is my jam. They play it all the time on the Adult R&B Stations and the Mix station here in Chicago. I really can't see why anyone would or could possibly ignore such a smooth slow jam. It's a song that means a lot to me personally...so....I could never say anything bad about it except for the fact that I've never heard it live. razz

Ok, I'm glad I'm not the only fan of the song lol Still don't really understand why Prince doesn't play it at all. From what I've heard he hasn't played the song once. Oh well sigh

If ya read it, please be so kind and sing your Future Baby Mama tomorrow...for me batting eyes

It sucks. Worst song on the album by far. It sounds pretty, but that's it. The lyrics are really unfortunate, as is the title.

It is indeed a beautiful song. Usually the people that don't like it just don't like the title because it's not socially acceptable, but you know how close minded people can be.

It's not an issue of being "socially acceptable". It cheapens the whole song. It makes it seem like Prince is just looking to find a woman to be a baby factory, and then kick to the curb.

Funny, that's definitely not how I perceive it. To me it sounds like he's looking for the One, the woman he wants to settle down and have children with.

"To build a house together the thing that matters more

I think this is a very cool typical Prince brand romantic song, and the part about "Deep down I know what U want
You want your girlfriends to hate U" is a genius lyric, like old Prince. The whole song is like late 80's prince.

its boring rehashed paint by numbers prince...i just can't fathom how folks can repeatedly throw snarky comments about others wanting to hear a "purple rain 2" but are willing to accept prince's umpteenth version of the same damn song he has been recording from the very begining.

the song is tired....the arrangement is the same as before...and the lyrics are trite and the song title is pathetic.

why folks accept this crap from a musical genius is beyond me...

I'm just wondering about Moonbeam's interpretation of the one 80's-Prince throwback he threw on an album of new directions for him (some which are piss poor like "Resolution")
