**1999** I like 1999 too, but both albums are over a decade old and I figured it would make for some interesting discussion "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."

Symbol album is good, maybe even great, but 1999 is the hiding-in-plain-sight genius album of Prince's career. That album just has layer upon layer of wonderful things to discover. After a quarter of a decade, I still find new things inside it and marvel at the raw musical genius combined with sex, emotion, energy, faith, and passion.

Wow... I ain't counting years of album releases or whatever.
I like both albums 4 diff. reasons. 1999 overall is the better of the two. I only had 2 cut out one track (All the critics...) and it has a lot of really powerful tracks... and a lot of great "players". pre-Revolution. WEll, it was The Revolution, just not as the PR crowd knows it. And I put The Revolution over the NPG anytime. But is a little more personal. Tracks like The Morning Paper, Damn U and Sweet Baby get extra points. But I had 2 cut out 3 tracks, so its overall weaker than 1999. I still like both though. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I love both a lot. Both are top 5 Prince albums (if you don't count Crystal Ball). 1999 is my favorite, though. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

You went into Peanut's adult mode after that.... wah,wah,wah... Oh, but your a newby, eh? Well, give it some time

Well, I cut it out back in the beginning of my getting thru it... overall, it seemed very bizarre 2 me and that particular song was the most bizarre of them all... after getting rid of it, it still took a little while 2 get used 2 the album, but now I love it as it is. Heh, and I think with all of the tracks, it's too long 4 me. When his albums get past an hour, I start 2 lose my focus. (And oddly, I've no problem getting thru his movies... PR just whipped by just now, heh) had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

oh right...
I still stand by what I said. But maybe when im in a curious mood, I'll give it another listen... but it's a real oddball, that track. It didn't really seem like a song 2 me. had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

1999. It's just one of those no-brainer all-time classics, ya know?
I get a kick out of the Symbol Album, though. Prince sounds harder and harsher than he did in the 80s, but he also sounds more lost, less sure of who he is and where he's going. He sounds downright frantic on "My Name is Prince." And yeah, he did go weird after that album. His romantic life, his professional life, his financial and artistic life all seemed to fall apart at the same time. Dude must've been stressed.

Lovesymbol
I cant believe some people dont like this!! Its arguably hes best "BAND" recording, the productionis amazing and prince was at one his his creative peaks here. Sexy MF is a classic funk jazz work out. Then theres the BIG epic rock opera songs like Morning Papers, 3 Chains Of Gold and God Created Woman. The Flow and My Name Is Prince are good funky songs with rapping (i always liked Tony M), and 7 is a god religious sort of poppy, rocky number. Then uve got the ballads like Sweet Baby and Damn U (which is a personal fav of mine!) Lovesymbols got EVERYTHING you need in a prince album. So lovesymbol it is for me

"All the Critics" is one of his most experimental, but one of his most rewarding songs. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! So lovesymbol it is for me At the risk of getting attacked, 1999 & Symbol seem like companion albums that were released only a decade apart. 1999 shares very little in common with the albums that came after it. (a perfect 10). --Purple Rain was a movie soundtrack/rock funk album that was a huge success.(well known classics, but they are overplayed to the point of no return) 9/10 --ATWIAD-Very Beatlesque (I enjoyed this album a lot, since he followed his own artisitic feelings) 7/10 --Parade--As one orger called it, "artsy fartsy" (underrated, but a 7/10) --SOTT-HAs little bit of everything, but its not 1999 (Not a fan, but the concert movie is great) 8/10 --Lovesexy--Quirky (some gems, but you have to "get it" to dig it 9/10 --Batman-Movie Soundtrack with some good cuts, but no real classics (maybe Partyman) 6/10 Graffiti Bridge-I only got into the Prince cuts (WTF is up with Melody Cool?) 5/10 Diamonds & Pearls-Hard to figure. I have a love hate relationship with this one 6/10 Symbol-It is a fantastic album, kind of like 1999 reinveneted for the 1990's(minus the Kirstie Alley segues)9.5/10 "Old man's gotta be the old man. Fish has got to be the fish."
