Anyone else listen to their Prince CDs alone ??

I happen to be surrounded by Non-Prince fans so have to listen to my Prince CDs alone or when I'm driving with my 5 yr old in tow (I only play non-porno Prince when I am with her). I also like to listen to Prince loud so the best way to do it is in the car. cool

Anyone else does the same?

I always listen to Prince alone, in my room after a hard day at work around hundreds of people, that's the ONLY thing that soothes me, the ONLY thing! smile

Nobody else I know really appreciates Prince like I do.

If I do try to listen to a CD with someone, they want to talk about it and tear it apart (comparing it to old stuff).

I like to listen to most music alone, actually! Not just Prince.

My girlfriend doesn't dig Prince so I don't play him around the house.. or well, apartment. I can always listen to him on my iPod though, but uh, I haven't listened to much Prince at all lately.

It is not known why FuNkeNsteiN capitalizes his name as he does, though some speculate sunlight deficiency caused by the most pimpified white guy afro in Nordic history.

I haven't listened to much Prince lately either. When 3121 and Ultimate came out, I had a renewed appreciation, but this Planet Earth era isn't doing anything for me.

Definitely!!

It's the only way to really get everything I can out of the albums, get through everything, feel everything... all that stuff.

Along with the fact nobody else appreciates him the same way I do... or see him the way I do in my family or whatever, it's best that way cuz they wouldn't approve of a lot of the stuff that happens in his music.
The language, the content, etc, etc. The stuff that used to turn me off... I think his screaming alone is enough to turn most people off, and the fact he does the falsetto a lot is a turn off.

Plus, it keeps my thoughts "pure" and I'm not tempted to follow the opinions of others and make fun of whatever.

Absolutely! I'm a social worker with individual who have mental illness, and my job is super stressful. Listening to Prince super loud on my way home from work is the best de-stressing technique I've found!

heh... even when I am alone, I almost always wear headphones so I catch a lot more... I usually do so when I'm listening for the first time. I'm on my computer playing Spider Soltaire while trying to figure out how I feel about the album.

When it's only me and him, I understand a lot more. That's just the way it is for me.

When I'm alone listening to a CD, no matter who the artist is,
I usually take this time to explore my own body ( get your minds out of the gutter....it's perfectly healthy, emotionally, mentally & spiritually to reaquaint one's self with one's own body).

However,
I notice that whenever I do this whilst listening to one Prince's,
I usually tend to find something big
.....& funky.

usually I think about him when I listen to his work, but on rare occsions, he'll drag me into it and point out certain things.
Like TGE used to rub me the wrong way based on certain tracks. He showed me that I should be more trusting of people.
Sure, I'd trust Prince with my life... but sometimes, I just can't get myself to "bed down" with him and be completely trusting of him. But it depends on the mood I'm in.

Well, most singers will irritate if they are listened to album after album. I get tired of my favorites after a lot of listening, Prince included, familiarity breeds contempt.

I've thought about the idea of conversion.
I'm convinced that you really can't do much with anyone unless they had an appreciation/admiration for his dedication to his music...

I figure that if given the chance, I'd expose the person to Purple Rain and let it roll from there... but that just reinforces the misunderstanding that it was his greatest achievement and he had done nothing as good since.

I came here to get to know him from the people that know him best.
When I had time on my own this summer with just Prince & me, I figured out a lot more about him in such a little amount of time.

i absolutely love listening to Prince alone. His music always calms my nerves. And his lusty growl always drowns out the person who tries to talk to me while i'm listening to him.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I actually have many close friends who love his music, although most of them like him back in the day and are not too fond of his recent stuff. However, they still buy his music and when he is in concert nearby we all get together and go.

My family knows I love his music, my nephew is willing to learn some of his stuff on guitar and my nieces dance their tails off whenever they hear any of his music.

I live alone, so technically, I listen to his music alone (most of the time) because there is no one here and my cat is deaf. lol

The person I am seeing tolerates Prince and says he will think about going to one of his concerts with me. I said, "Come on, now where is your support concerning my interests!" (I give him a hard time) wink I play golf with him... and at times in 110 degrees. Insane. ~Smile.

Come 2 think of it, I really can't listen 2 his stuff, at least not the first couple of times, when I'm surrounded by noise... can't concentrete too well.

I have that problem especially with the prince albums... otherwise, I really have no problem.

I'm getting thru D&P right now, but with all these distractions i had yesterday, it was kind hard 2.

I always catch myself listening to Prince by myself. I guess I can enjoy it more bcuz I feel no one in my house understands it like me. I mean my mom LOVES Prince she always wants to hear Sexy Dancer or Scandalous etc.... But there is alot of stuff that I enjoy that I know she's not going to be into 4 certain reasons. I just can't enjoy listening to Prince as much around a whole bunch of people as much as I enjoy it alone! wink

wave Same here!

Yeah, I'm sure there are plenty of songs my mom could like... but there's just so much that I have to take into account.
I'd rather listen alone than mutilate my favorite albums cuz the material is "inapproriate"

Hello,

Yes, I listen to Prince alone.

Most of my friends do not listen to Prince at all.

So I listen to Prince in the car, or on the IPOD.
Not so much at home anymore. My partner is more of a torch song queen so it does not mix with Prince much.

Although I am building a reading room for myself in the new house so I may have to make some new Prince mixes for the room.

Hmmmmm, so many ideas, so little time.
