When did you STOP collecting all things Prince? I used to collect every 12", CD, associated artists, even if he just wrote a song for someone. I think I stopped around Grafitti Bridge when he was putting out various 12" singles from The Time, Mavis Staples, Tevin Campbell, Carmen Electra. It just got to be too much and too expensive. Plus the quality of some of these singles including remixes and such just kinda sucked. I still buy his CDs but I've stopped buying every single, remix, etc. If it wasn't for a good friend of mine I wouldn't even have the fan club music or N.E.W.S. I didn't buy the Brand New Orleans single either. I still like Prince but I guess I've stopped "collecting"...How about you?

There was a point in time when I collected whatever I could get my hands on, including newspaper clippings, I have boxes full of magazines and newspaper clippings in storage .. but that stopped awhile ago, mostly now it is only official releases, and other cds that catch my eye if u catch my drift The only LOVE there is, IS the LOVE WE MAKE ~ Prince

i'm more selective with collecting prince stuff than i used to be. if it has a certain novelty to me, or if i think it's well made (or amusingly POORLY made), then i'll add it to the collection. i won't just get boring lame crap just because it has prince's name on it anymore (and that includes official products!). i guess i started getting a little more selective around the time of diamonds & pearls? it's hard to track. definitely around college, because i didn't have the money or storage space to be grabbing every prince tchotchke i saw.

Prince's music will always sell. And sooner or later will the symbol T-shirts.
Prince is one of many talents on the earth, trying desperately to heal our planet at the time. At it's height U can call it a New Power Revolution, or a clearly read, Sign of the times....Evenstill, Prince cannot change the world alone. Blessings to Sheila's elevate hope foundation, and the many beautiful people trying to expidite this effort. Patience is at hand. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight...

I've never collected anything but the music. I'm not the type to collect multiples of a given recording and I don't really care about fancy colored vinyl or picture discs. The only things I'm interested in are pieces or versions I don't already own. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I thought I had stopped a few months ago, for financial reasons. Then I found myself buying his new album on the day of it's release, and ordering 2 copies of Giant magazine online. It will never end... Wanna hear me sing? www.ChampagneHoneybee.com

My story is similar to the One(s) above... I was a huge fanatic during the '80s almost to the point of collecting Prince spaghetti and tennis rackets -- if his name was even remotely attached to something, I had to have it. I stopped around 1989-1990 when my life took on new priorities. I used to have all the movie posters, most every single released, huge scrapbooks filled with pics and articles, buttons galore, etc. I shipped most of this stuff off to Paisley -- I couldn't see throwing it away and certainly didn't collect the stuff to sell it. It was cool that by the mid-90s my fanaticism had practically disappeared when I got the chance (through a mutual friend) to finally do some work with him and talk to him like a normal human being (pretty much). In a few different ways, he's a big part of who I am and/or what I do, so I guess that's what keeps me hanging around -- not to mention the things I enjoy learning from him through his musicianship and creativity. Plus, like Sheila, I care about the guy and hope he'll do alright. We all have our roads less taken that we are drawn to travel. I've settled on my path as others have settled on theirs. No need to walk in someone else's footsteps for longer than one's able to learn from that person. Some may stray and may even lose themselves when following others. Be still and know the uni verse all ways.

I used to grab all the singles I could find, if there were alternate versions/mixes, but I think the last one I bought was I Hate U. It was then that I began to realize that Prince was probably never gonna give me another Alexa De Paris or Shockadelica. Tired old remixes made by other people were now the order of the day, and that was just not my interest.
I'll buy every new album still, but that's about it.

right after the Batman soundtrack.
When the whole lame R&B and Rap thing started and Prince became predictable and mainstream (with a few exceptions here and there) I kept buying all the albums (and an occasional singles now and then for collectors sake) I stopped buying bootlegs around that time as well. I started internet trading and collecting originals again around ONA in Europe when I exeprienced a renewed interest in Prince. PJ
