u folks kill me. Everything is fine as long as prince talked about sex but soon as he has an opinion on racial issues whitey can't take it. Face it prince is BLACK so racism affects him and he wants to talk about it. Yes Lincoln was a racist along with 99% of the rest of the white folks of that time. That's a part of the story too. Along with his greatness lets not just wash over the flaws. Like prince says nobody wants to take responibility. Just like one snowflake in an avalanche.

i dont have a problem with prince discussing race issues...but, like everything else he discusses, he approaches it with cryptic babble... and instead of asking for a dialog he is making statements...statements that can be considered rude..

if your gonna talk about race, theres a polite and thoughtful way of going about it...MLK JR would never make cryptic statements...the man made his thoughts known...

I can send U a copy of when he was performing @ NYC 4 the ONA gig.
N a song he says, "You make a BLACK MAN wanna moan tonight!" while he was fading out of "How come you dont Call Me?" (I think he was in NYC, I may B wrong, but he damn sure said he was BLACK.)
Is there a problem, Nep2nes? confuse

yeah i knew...but prince wasnt always getting specific with his political statements...

its one thing to make a vague comment about the arms race...another to say a US President is a racists...

1997. Essence Awards.

"Stevie Wonder giving me this award. You have no idea what this means to me. As a musician, & as a BLACK MAN!"

Philly 2001 "This next song I am about to do is called when will we be paid. I want everyone to sing it. But do not get the message wrong. I LOVE BEING BLACK! I LOVE IT!"

It was even mentioned in Q magazine in 1995 with R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe on the cover. About Racism in the music biz n him talking the piss out of white people ala Richard Pryor. Also, pick up his cover story in Q from 1994 for more info.

Read Vibe Magazine Cover story from 1994.

& Prince's constant use of the "N" word since 1992.

So in my opinion, MANY fans, especially white, miss Prince's messages of blackness that he has used thruought his career.

1985 & Borrowed from Cedric The Entertainer in 2000.
"Rapsberry Beret is one of those songs that makes you check your blackness."

1997 Interview Magazine while being interviewed by Spike Lee.

"Spike you were right & you had every right to criticize me for not using enough black women in my movie. I was trying to do what sold instead of what is right. (Spike was trying to apologize for protesting Graffiti Bridge back in 1990 for not hiring enough black women & for not having enough black women in his music videos.)

So Prince's blackness has always been around. You just had to check it. Prince has felt bad for awhile for having to hide what he was when he first started out. But as we can all see, he is making up for lost time.

He is black, let's get over it n party.

No he's not.

He's mixed, just like the majority of us. No problem regardless, I just can't see why it matters what label we want to put on him ( or anyone else, FTM...)

We are not dogs, defined and differentiated by the nature of our breeding - our "purity". Who fucking cares what he "is"? He's a great musician and a brilliant artist.

"I just can't believe
All the things people say
Am I black or white
Am I straight or gay?"

And that was 20 years ago.

but, as always, when Prince finally latches onto some idea, he wants to make up for lost time. as with pretty much every issue he catches up with (race, religion, the recording industry), his statements and actions are juvenile, rarely thought-out beyond a flashy line, or some historical quote taken out of context.

The only label that is accurate is the one his parents were, and his parents said he is: Black.

How is he supposed to ask for dialog about it? Seems to me that he's gotten plenty of it here, it's been discussed ad naseum.

if your gonna talk about race, theres a polite and thoughtful way of going about it...MLK JR would never make cryptic statements...the man made his thoughts known...
