I give it four stars. I like PE a lot, but I just feel like something is missing for some reason.

I agree with Rolling Stone; 3 and one half stars. His comeback to former days album. Too bad All The Shitnights In The World wrecks it for me. As for Guitar. All you others say Hell Yea!!

All U sane people agree with me that Somewhere here On Earth is the best song on the album? Future Booty Mama the second best, even though it has a vibe like Pink Cashmere. All you others say Hell Yea!!

why? I've been listening to Prince since 1981. I feel that in my opinion this album is just a quick output without much thought in to it. Most songs sound like left overs from his past 3 albums. Or some demos he's had hanging around for a while. Like you and everyone that's follows the little guy...I'm still waiting for something to REALLY move me. It's been too long.....sad to say! "The little 1 will escort u 2 the places within ur mind"

4 3/4 stars...! Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

Maybe would have given it 3 1/2 but "Somewhere here on earth" and "the 1 u wanna c" suck major ass. Cornball lyrics and tired ballads bore me...

There are a number of albums I like better this year, but I dig Planet Earth for the most part. What drags it down is "Future Baby Mama" and "Guitar". [Edited 8/23/07 6:21am] Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I can't believe that many of you gave this album such low ratings. Wow.
I mean, Chaos and Disorder was his least funkiest album ever. It was good, but not soulful. I give all of Prince's compositions 5 stars, but if you are asking me from a critic's point of view, I give "Planet Earth" a SOLID 4 stars. "Chelsea Rodgers" is a funk masterpiece. The rest of the album could be Prince rattling change around in his pocket, and if Chelsea was the only actual song on the album, it would still get 3.5 stars.

But I am a funk junkie, so albums with really nice funk on them get higher priority....

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

It's nice, for its era. And if you like it, that's great! Personally, I prefer the discofunk, disco, and electrofunk sounds from 1973-1988. Strangely, I grew up on that new jack stuff, and the 73-88 period was before my time in many ways, but I prefer it. That new jack era between 1989-1995 doesn't appeal to me. People talking about "bussin caps, partying, and grindin" in a lot of those songs, and 4/4 swing times on many songs, in retrospect, it just doesn't appeal to me as much as the straight 4/4 uptempo stompers of the discofunk era. But if it's your thing, and you prefer it to a song like "Chelsea", then it's all good as well, because music is what you want it to be. [Edited 8/23/07 13:09pm]
