Personally, I think that THE RAINBOW CHILDREN is defnitely Prince's best work in the last 15-20 years. I wouldnt say that its his BEST album but if I had to pick 5 Prince albums that I think are the best, TRC would be somewhere within there..

No disrespect but to say the rainbow children is PRINCE'S WORST ALBUM IS CRAZY! U GUYS OBViously dont Know much about musicianship and originality. The rainbow children album should have won a grammy for originality alone, not 2mention musicianship. This album is by far Prince's best! sad

Obviously, saying it is his best album is just as crazy to a lot of others. People's tastes differ.

I'm going to be so proud when fams are able to break out of their little fam-bubble they live in.

*reality check, listen to something else besides Prince, read some reviews by "real" music critics and take some other music for a spin.

You will be awakened!! razz

Thor

I consider myself a long time Prince fan, having followed his career since 1982. I liked him so much I went to work for him in 1995. My favorite Prince era is 1982-1989. Favorite album is SOTT. Favorite tour is Lovesexy. I have seen over 100 Prince shows in my life and have enjoyed much of his output. But saying that I don't like TRC does not make me "wrong", "ignorant" or anything else. It is my personal taste. I think that much of Prince's output would benefit greatly from an editor that can say no to him. He surrounds himself with yes boys and girls and needs someone to tell him when to stop or make changes. Emancipation is a great single album, or very good double set, but a weighed down filler filled 3 cd set. Much of my favorite Prince songs come from a certain time in my life, where I was, who I was with. It brings back great memories hearing "Good Love", "Shockadelica", "I Wish U Heaven 12"", "I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man", "Mountains" etc etc....

I am happy that Prince is still recording and releasing albums nearly every year. Usually there are 3 or 4 good tracks on them, sometimes more. I have given up hope a long time ago that Prince would get back to the highs of his 80's era. But I can still enjoy what he releases when it agrees with my personal taste. TRC certainly does not agree with me at all, but neither did NEWS, ONA or Gold. But I found tracks to listen to on Gold and ONA, but have not been able to listen to anything off TRC. It is not in my I-Pod which is probably the most damning thing I can say about it as every other Prince album is. Again it boils down to personal taste and what Prince you are in the mood for. Sometimes I am not in the mood for any Prince, classic or otherwise. The Rainbow Children obviously appeals to a lot of fans, just not this one....

Just making the point that people who don't like the challenge of the rainbow children, usually prefer prince's relatively dull and predictable attempts at being modern.

These people don't like any depth to the music they listen too.

It's kinda like the whole Pink Floyd Vs Rolling Stones argument! Compared 2 Floyd, The Stones totally blow musically and lyricaly. But hey! They r more popular and considered the best band in history eek Tastes R Tastes! I prefer Pink Floyd, I think TRC shits on Musicology & 3121 from a great height. I also think For You is way better than Dirty Mind. But that;s Me! cool

It is a masterpiece.

Musically, Lyrically, and thematically. He was on fire and inspired.

The actual recording, mixing, and mastering is equally brilliant. Sounds like 2" tape!

Getting John Blackwell to drum brought an extra dimension to the sound 2! the guy is awsome!

ok seriously speaking. For me, Prince has maybe 10 best albums deopending on my mood and 1999 is certainly one of them. Nothing beats 1999 just like nothing beats TRC.

It's that TRC gets so much bad press here to which I can't begin to relate to.

I agree...THE RAINBOW CHILDREN album is what got me back into Prince after giving up on him after the New Power Soul debacle
