yikes, i could not Disagree more, this album is bad. I never reach for it to listen to and it is just too different. Besides how can it beat SOTT, 1999, Purple Rain, Dirty Mind, symbol album for the title of the best. It cant touch these albums. in in my opinion, this is his worst album ever.

I LOVE this cd!! In fact I am listening to it right now. Beautiful songs, great jams and fantastic concept.

But it's hard for me to say it's his best ONLY because I dig ALL his albums...there are so many to choose from! I like the fact that I can listen to something different with each album.

So yeah "The Rainbow Children" is a masterpiece!!

Certain songs seem to last too long, and aren't interesting enough to hold up over their length causing them to sound like "Easy listening" material. Then certain ones are a riot of sound. I agree with some other posters here. Prince fan since 1982, and this is one of his worse albums. Almost unlistenable with the slowed done "JW/God crap" seques, and then the mediocre songs. One of the only Prince albums I cannot name all of the tracks on it as I play it so rarely. 3121 is a return to form for me, while Planet Earth has 3 good songs on it. Rainbow Children has 0 good songs, which makes it his worse album for me. I don't mind Prince getting spiritual on good songs, even if I don't believe in any of it. The Cross, I Wish U Heaven, The Holy River, God etc all are great songs with a spiritual vibe. None of them make me cringe like TRC....and change the cd....Best Prince album of all time is Sign O the Times. That album will stand the test of time, perhaps even more than Purple Rain as one of the greatest albums ever made.

It is a masterpiece.

Musically, Lyrically, and thematically. He was on fire and inspired.

The actual recording, mixing, and mastering is equally brilliant. Sounds like 2" tape!

I love The Rainbow Children, but I can understand why it's not everyone cup of tea. It's so far 'out there' that most fans can't relate to it.
