Prince and his slave state o' mind

I admit, I neva paid attention to Prince's slave subjects till I heard the song "Free" from 1999 2day and the line when he goes like "Be glad that U r free
Free 2 change your mind
Free 2 go most anywhere, anytime
Be glad that U r free
There's many a man who's not
" hit me HARD!!

What is that suppose 2 mean?? That Prince WAS never free??When did all that mess started out??? His childhood??

I think that the "FREEDOM" is the touchiest subject 4 Prince but I don't know whats the reason behind it. Gawd, he talk about this issue with passion more than my grandmother.

The context of not being free in the song "free" is way different than that which took shape during the feud with WB. In "free" I think it was sung in the context of our freedom's as American's compared to many others in the world. At least that's what I've always thought.

That's precisely what I've always thought too.
