I thought "horse" was another term for heroin. So his cousin tried a joint in september, and by june he was a heroin addict (or had at least tried it). | |

Ha! Ha! Had to laugh at this one, I asked my hubby to disect this for me, for us non street urchins.... it is difficult to understand this lingo. His cousin was doing weed at one time and moved to heroin. Heroin addiction by the way is the worst of all drugs... withdrawals are the harshest and when addicted it is very difficult to quit. | |

It means he was smoking pot and now he's moved on to heroin in less than a year. The lyric is based the belief that drugs lead to other and more harsher drugs. Most of the song is actually about how bad things have gotten and the ill logic behind it all.
IMO, I do think the statement is a bit false, but back in the 80's with President Regan's "just say no" message a lot of things regarding drugs were misconstrued. Christian Zombie Vampires | |

For me the best part of this line is Prince's comparison of drugs to school. His cousin started smoking reefer in September and by June he had graduated to heroin. Where I'm from school has always started in September and ended in June so I thought this was a very cool analogy... | |

There used to be this great troll on Yahoo ("ncconservativedude") that had a post titled, "Sadly, My Cousin Died from Marijuana". The post went something like this:
"My cousin was a great student and star athlete. He went to a party at a friends' house - the parents were out of town (obviously liberals, so why is anyone surprised). One thing led to another and a joint was produced. Everyone took puffs off it but my cousin wouldn't do it. Well, he was feeling a lot of peer pressure so he thought, "Why not?" and took a puff off the joint.
Immediately he went into convulsions and passed out. Someone called 9/11 but it was too late. Marijuana killed my cousin." I don't smoke pot but I don't think it's a gateway drug. That post was so darn funny. The dude would post it on a news board about every three weeks and of course a lot of people would take the bait and think it was true. | |
