Have I stepped back in time!!??!! Apologies If this has already been posted.
But I was perusing my local Tower records at the weekend, and there staring at me was Prince, off the cover of a When Doves Cry 12"! I did a double take and walked over. Madness. Then I notice Rasberry Beret, I Wanna Be Your Lover, Let's Go Crazy, 1999, Kiss and others like Gett Off and such. All in really really horrible reproductions of the original covers. What gives? Are Warner trying to cash in on his new return to popularity? Who's responsible for these second rate reissues? And for gods sake WHY?

I dunno but i'm just pleased to see his stuff in all the shops at the moment. HMV had a massive section dedicated to him with loads of albums and dvds

But it is sad to see second rate reissues.

Would Tower records really stock bootled material though?
I'll have a closer look when I'm back in there, but if memory serves, the reproductions include everything down to the WB logo. They could be legit, but man they look bad... AND 7euro a pop too...

Tower wouldn't sell bootlegs. They might be imported though.
Not seen them in Virgin or HMV

I saw these in HMV a few weeks ago but they seem to have gone. I glanced at them and I think they were issued by Rhino division of Warners. There was a big advert in the Guardian guide paid for by HMV at beginning of August, and yes it was an obvious cash in on the tour. As genuine and non-bootlegg-y as possible, but done on the cheap, imho.
Don't have a record player, so wasn't interested. Talking of imports, has anyone seen an imported copy of Planet Earth in the UK with the hologram cover?

I would get them, just to be able to preserve my originals (by never playing them again), but the covers are just too shit.
I've been looking out for the hologram cover PE... But I doubt anyone would stock it what with 3 million copies already floating about... Probably best to buy it online.

There was but it was just the long version from the Purple Rain album. Even the b side "17 Days" was only the 3 minute version, nothing extended.

Finally a release of Prince music that's worth listening to. Too bad it's all old material. No hard feelings.

i thought they closed. There are still 2 stores in Dublin. And I have a 12" of WDC from years ago, and it was just the extended album/video version. I don't really have a problem with re-issues per say. I just have a problem with how badly these ones have been done. Stinks of "cash-in"

It was in a few newspapers a week or two ago that some of the old 12" singles were being re-released. I seen them in HMV, and the covers look a bit nasty (quality wise). Its a nice, diverse selection though, featuring Gett Off and the singles from Purple Rain for example. I like my old singles, even if they are a little tattered! Sounds like a real man to me...mind if I turn on the radio?
