it's okay in moderation

i didn't mind when it was just 2, 4, R, and U that was used but all this 'eye' business is ridiculous. I don't mind Prince using it, but anyone else using it smacks of obsession.

I personally don't have a problem with Princebonics when Prince uses them. I kind of do when anyone else does.

As Prince has said before, his style of writing helps to assert his own individuality, which I support. It makes Prince a bit different from everyone else and helps to add his own stamp of uniqueness on his music.

And, contrary to what some of you have said, Princebonics are not necessarily a way of saving writing time. This was not the reason Prince gave for using 'eye' instead of 'I'. In that instance, he explained it by way of what I said above, ie. asserting his own individuality, or something similar.

However, the impression it gives when someone else uses Princebonics is that they are trying to be like him or trying to imitate him. Anything of this sort I find a bit sad really.

Of course, Prince doesn't own '4' and 'U' and suchlike, but you can tell when someone is using these shortcuts to imitate Prince and I don't like it! So there!

Every culture has their own little ways of saying things. The fact that Prince thought of an original way of spelling certain things is quite unique and impressive.Personally eye have been usuing his language since eye ceen it on the 1999 lyric sheets. Useing his way of writing and user names such as chickengrease, baconskin, jamiestarr, etc., has allowed me 2 meet other fams that otherwise eye never would have made contact with. They c my spelling and they say O u must like Prince! and vice-versa. So 2 all the haters, is u're life so dull that u have nothing better 2 do then insult the person that had a creative mind 2 do such a thing?

I think if you are trying to say something and you expect to have any credibility in saying it substituting numbers for words is just going to be distracting.
This is one reason I wish the commentaries on Prince's site were just written in proper English.

Only like them when Prince, and only Prince uses them. Otherwise it just annoys the hell out of me. Hell, I don't even like it when Prince uses them all the time. Like in the essays. They become too hard to read, my brain just turns off and I don't pay any attention to what I'm reading.

Why complicate things by having three different words
with the same sound but such different spellings?
