This really shouldnt' surprise anyone.

He got some good press, but his marketing campaign wasn't all that big.

And, as much as we love him, he just doesn't have the general popularity (at least in terms of ablums sales) that he once did. Nothing wrong with that.

He'll make a bunch of cash from his concerts and go from there.

On an unrelated note, I'd like to see a definitive live album (One Nite Alone was good, but too unwieldy) with great acoustics. Prince's "At Budokan" or "Alive."

Not suprising to me unfortunately. Its amazing to me how much he's not in the conscious of the general public despite this recent "comeback" or whatever most people call it. Proof of it was on the air locally where I listened to a conversation of people talking about greatest live performers and were listing names like J.T. (don't wanna start no hating on him but he was a name brought up), Madonna, Garth Brooks and people like that and as names came out noone said Prince at any time. I know he hasn't sold shit lately as far as number of albums really (compared to his height anyhow) but damn I thought it was known far and wide that he's one of the greatest live performers in music history.

It saddened me greatly sad sad
"Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

Prince actually sold more records in the first week of release than Sean Kingston? I thought that song Beautiful Girls was supposed to be so hot.
Anyway, Planet Earth is still #2 on iTunes R&B and it rose from #51 to #31 on the main itunes page.
Not bad for an album with no promotion and no mainstream airplay. I'm assuming it's doing well on the R&B side cause of FBM getting play on urban stations.
Nice to see Common on top. Much better than that idiotic NOW series.

a 63 % decline in the second week is standard and not half bad considering some decline more than 70%.

these are not Billboard numbers . They come out tomorrow. It may vary a little

Listen, this cd didn't have any real promotion, outside the Verizon commercials. That's why this doesn't surprise me. Most people didn't and don't know that the cd is out. Also, Columbia/Prince hurt things by not releasing a video. In addition, releasing FBM only two weeks before the cd dropped wasn't smart. No interviews. No big time U.S. tours. Blah, blah blah. However, things can still improve. All it may take is for FBM or another single to do really well. It's not unusual for slow selling albums to pick up once a single gets hot. There's still time. It's all riding on the success of FBM now.

Is'nt it something how us fans/fams really try to push a new Prince cd, while Prince acts as if he never released it? Why even release to the mass.

Well it looks like this album won't go gold; unlike "3121."

Still it should sell 200,000 - 350,000.

Not too bad for an album with very llttle stateside support from its artist.

Yeah. I think we fans often over-estimate his supposed "comeback". He's still very much a mystery for the majority of the mainstream. The "comeback" has more to do with his public perception than it does a recognition of his talent (ie. he's not as 'weird' as he used to be).

The other day a work colleague asked me who my favorite artist was (knowing I'm a musician in my spare time), to which I replied "Prince". She looked at me with horror and said something like "Prince? Isn't he just a singer?" mad (don't worry, I've already got my Prince-indoctrination plan all sorted lol)

For the people that know anything about musicianship, Prince will always be respected. But the fact is that most people know shit all about what musicianship is these days. So it doesn't surprise me one bit that his albums don't do so well in the charts anymore.

I doubt he has a link as it's obviously not true - just because it made it to No.3 in USA doesn't by a long shot mean it was the 3rd biggest selling album in the world for the week - it was barely top 20 anywhere else (though it was No.1 in Switzerland - though i doubt that would off-set the rest of the planets sales....)

It's the diehard fans buying it when it's first released that got it so high to begin with. How else would an album by someone like Prince even make the charts considering that everything else on the charts is absolute bullshit music? Once all the fans have it, it will disappear from the charts.
Andy is a four letter word.
